PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
National Science Foundation (NSF) and Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (CEES)
Biofuel Production process Engineer January 2012 - present
Performed characterization of six biomass samples for production of biofuel; an alternative to petroleum fuel.
Conducted water, ethanol and hexane extractions of biomass samples and analyzed water extracts using the Ion
Chromatography System (ICS -5000) to determine cations and anions present in these biomass samples and the
effect of ions of bio-fuel usage.
Performed catalytic thermo gravimetric analysis of biomass samples using thermogravimetic analyzer (TGA)
to determine the kinetic parameters of biomass pyrolysis or decomposition reaction for optimizing the
operation of the fluidized bed reactor for high yield of bio-oil.
Designed a fluidized bed reactor for bio-fuel production with standardized methodology using the Engineering
Equation Solver (EES) to determined design parameters.
Conducted heat analysis, insulation of the system, analysis on feed system and material balance on the reactor
system for biomass pyrolysis using EES
Obtained quote for the parts of the fluidized bed reactor, heat system and feeding system from companies
Assembled the system with team of engineers for biomass pyrolysis to bio-oil.
Ghana Oil Mills Process Engineer Intern June 2011 – Aug 2011
Performed energy production unit auditing on a cogeneration power plant by assessing equipment within the
plant such as boiler, heat exchanger and pipelines for transport of steam with the aim of evaluating production
processes and their output, identifying energy savings and losses, reporting findings and making
recommendations for optimizing plant operations
Conducted overview of energy use, highlighting areas where energy use may be improved, to detailed
modeling and analysis of equipment operation with precise estimates of energy savings and costs.
Performed material and energy balance on cogeneration power plant by examining energy input, loses and
output. Heating values, moisture content, ash content analysis was performed to determine the heat input from
the furnace to the boiler. Heat loss analysis was performed around the furnace and pipeline to determine heat
loss. Heat output to the turbine was also determined for the generation of electricity.
Develop a program using C++ and Java for the energy audit of the plant and an audit report with highlighted
areas to be improved so as to optimize the operation of the power plant
RPI (NY, USA) &KNUST (ACC, GH) Exchange Program Biogas Production Engineer Intern
June 2010 – August 2010
Designed and constructed a laboratory scale plant for producing biogas from biomass samples under
anaerobic conditions
Performed mass and energy balance on the pilot plant for producing biogas from biomass samples to examine
amounts of gases produced per unit mass of biomass samples and the energy content of the gases
Tested the combustibility of biogas produced with methane and propane to validate the feasibility of
commercializing the project
Performed an analysis to determined the components of biogas for future research of upgrading syngas to
biogas with combustibility such as methane
Pioneer Food Cannery (PFC) Quality Assurance /Pollution Control Intend June 2009 – August 2009
Performed sterilization to ensure that all sort of disease causing microbes are eliminated or neutralized before
packaging based on ISO 4000 certification.
Inspected cans to ensure that can defects such as pin-hole, double sealing, cracked flange, etc are eliminated in
the packaging
Performed pollution control measures on solid, liquid and gaseous wasted based on the EPA regulations
