My Tools
As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity forms provided for you to
document your observations.
An Observation Guide for BOARD DISPLAYS
Read the following statements carefully before you observe.
1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do you see?
2. Where are the display board found? Are they in places where target viewers can see them?
3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How are the pieces of
information arranged?
4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
5. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the like)
6. Are the messages clear and easily understood?
7. You may choose to take a photo of the display board (If allowed)
OBSERVATION REPORT
We did go there at AKIC-SLS last Sunday, January 26, 2014 for another observation. Upon
reading this Episode, I did try as much as I can to look around at their board displays in that certain
school. As far as I remember, I did saw six display boards in different places. The first thing that I did
notice was the big bulletin board located in the entrance area. It contains some information like that of
SSS, information on certain school related topic, names of different students which I think a classroom
setting, and the names of the contributors that was imprinted in the said display board. In order to see
the actual, a picture was being provided below as reference.
The second display board that I did noticed was the one that was located at the faculty room.
This display board contains of some information in relation to the teachers’ needs, like that of SSS

income bracket and the amount they need to contribute, and so many attached documents that were
there that seem like a flood and purely white in colour. Due to un arranged setting of these documents,
someone might not be so interested to get a sneak peek on this display board.
The third and the fourth display boards were located in the hallway, near the stair going to the
high school department. These two were placed in front of each other. The display board on the left side
was contained names of the students that achieved a good status in their academics, and a few
additional information that the student needed to see. The board on the right side contained a big
poster that states about the effect of this drug issue to the students health. It is some sort of warnings
for the students not to engage in this kind of addiction that can cause their life into misery. A picture
were provided below;
The fifth display board that I did as well noticed was that of board that is located in the
computer lab. One thing that is contained there was the school’s sequence chart, and other documents
that were pertaining about information in relations to how the computer must be used.
The last board that I saw was that one that is located in the registrar office. It contains the
philosophy and the mission of the school, as well as dates on certain schedules.
To some bulletin boards in this school were somehow containing not enough information for
the teachers especially for the students’ FYI issue. There are no definite colours or should I say, colours
that were being used in order to beautify there display boards and attract the students. It was kind of
plain. There are three types of material that were being used in making this materials and these are
woods, white board, and a chalk board type. The documents that were located in here somehow don’t
have any errors on their spelling. They are all written well, and can be understood except for that
information that was being filed up in the board area inside the faculty room. It was kind of messy.
From among the board displays that you saw, pick the one that you got most interested in.
Evaluate it using the evaluation form below.

Comments
Effective Communication
Conveys the message quickly clearly
The communications were conveyed properly and
clearly for those readers since it is in a poster
type, and encoded.
Attractiveness
Colors and arrangement catch and hold
interest.
I guess, they need to improve this board a lot in
terms of attractiveness because it is located at the
entrance gate which most of the people will
noticed.
Balance
Objects are arranged so stability is
perceived.
The posters were arranged accordingly as well as
the papers but needs a little bit of arranging that
information.
Unity
Repeated shapes or colors or use of
borders holds display together.
An improvement should be done here since you
cannot see any much of a colour that can attract
the students or other people.
Interactivity
The style and approach entice learners to
be involved.
There was no style that was being set up in
designing this board. They just put in there and
didn’t do something about designing this one.
Legibility
Letters and illustrations can be seen from
a good distance.
Words and letters were somehow readable, but
not within too much distance.
Correctness
Free from grammar, errors, misspelled
words, ambiguity.
They are free from wrong grammar and
misspelled words because as you can see it, they
are made of posters.
Durability
Well-constructed, items are securely
attached.
This part doesn’t need any improvement. The
board were made of a black board like and from
the way it looks, they really put and attached
there in a secure way that even a storm couldn’t
take it down.

An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin Board
(Option 2)
Bulletin Board Evaluated by: Jomairah T. Mulay
Location: Near the Entrance Gate
Brief Description of the Bulletin Board:
This board seems to be a displayed board for over all information that pertains to the students and the teacher.
EVALUATION
Strengths Weaknesses
Description of the Bulletin
Board lay-out
The displayed board contains of a
posters that pertains to some
information for the students and the
teachers as well. There was no specific
lay out on this displayed board as I
observed it, and no definite theme that I
could strongly point it out here.
There were so many weaknesses in
this displayed board. No theme, no
designs/layout, no colours, no
arrangement, no specific goal to be
seen, and a lot more.
Evaluation of educational
content and other aspects:
The content of those posters were well
conveyed and legibly written for the
readers to understand.
In terms of conveying the
appropriate content for the
readers, I cannot definitely say that
they did well provide the
information that is needed.
Recommendations or
Suggestions for improvement
The administrators should plan on adding a layout design on this displayed
board. As much as school is concern, and promoting their good well, they need
to enhance this bulletin board in a way that students, teachers and even the
outsiders could noticed it immediately and realizes those things that this school
could provide. They need to add colours, design, theme/topic, well balanced
displayed and etc.

Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 8
My Analysis
Did the board display design reflect the likes/interests of its target audience? Why? Why not?
 No, because of its lack of attractiveness and lacking of some other element in the said bulletin
board that the target audience well not meet, and might not even read by them due to its
outdated information and nothing new to be noticed by them to get interested into.
Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why? Why not?
 As I observed it yes, the posters were written clearly, and eligibly but this information cannot be
applicable to the elementary and preschooler due to the wordings that they might not
understand it at their level of understanding.
What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why? Why not?
 The purpose was to convey any messages to the people who come in and out from the school,
since this displayed board is located at the entrance gate of the school. This was the thing I
presume because we will not put something near a place where most of the people will see
unless this is the main purpose. However, this was not a very effective kind of display due to its
weakness as per described in the information above entitled: An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin
Board (Option 2)
What suggestions can you make?
 The bulletin board in this place needs a highly enhancement on this part. The entrance gate is
where all the people come in and out from the school, if you’re going to place a displayed board
here, and then there is a big purpose. This big purpose is to convey a message to the people
about something important that is related to school matters. For this reason, the
faculties/administrators need to find a way to plan on a lay-out that could attract many
audiences. They need to think of a theme that could give the audience that idea of their main
message. The layout, design and the message that should be put in here can be change every
three mos. as for the people to get a good idea once in a while.

Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 9
Based on your suggestion, purpose an enhanced version of the display board. Use the form below.
My Proposed Board Display
Theme: SCHOOL Activities previously and The Upcoming Events
Board Title: Time to check on the brightest side!
Rationale (Purpose): The purpose of this proposed board display of mine is to give the teachers,
students, and the visitors the information that they needed to know in relations to school related stuff,
and giving them ideas on something that is new from their sight. I would like to put up an informative
side of board that could reflect the positive side of the school, and the joy in learning.
Objectives:
To give the teachers, students and the visitors of the school the information they needed in
relation to school’s achievements, upcoming events, and an informative side of learning.
Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:
I am going to use colourful materials, and a design that could attract the target audiences. If the
school can facilitate a few funds for this proposed bulletin I would love to make it more entertaining for
all the audiences. I would love to put up some images, cute designs, legible cut out letters, and even
putting up a few crook boards inside that displayed board in order for the students to share the
information they want the people know. This is also a way to give the students a freedom on how they
will use their resources.
Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description):
Colourful materials and the lay-out designs, the material to be used in here would be cartolina,
colour paper, colour pencil, highlighter, colour pen, post it and etc. This will give a stimulating attraction
for the all the audiences, and used it to emphasize some information that is a must read for the
audience. This would also help attract even the young children of pre-schooler, and elementary since at
that young age, they love colourful things.
Colour print outs for the images. I could use posters, print out materials, brochure etc that I
could do with to emphasize more on the topics that needed some pictures for further information and
used for visualization learning.
I’ll be also be needing a glass to protect the displayed board from any unwanted disturbance.
Materials for aesthetic enhancement:
Since the materials alone could not be done only by me, I would be needing a donation coming
from school if they could provide some funds especially for the bulletin board itself, and the glass that is

needed, and also the payment for its set up at the school ground. If they could not or could only give a
few amount. I would probably take the initiative to solicit some amount of money from my family
member or friends, explaining about the purpose of this money. If there will be an excess amount, it
would likely to be put as a savings for future materials that is to be used, especially that I’d be wanting
to change the content of this board for every three months of the whole school year.
My Portfolio
Based on your suggestion, make your own board display lay-out. You may present your output through
any of these:
 A hand-made drawing or lay out
 An electric (computer) drawing/illustration or lay out
 A collage
My Board Display Lay-Out

Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 11
My Reflections
1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with effective board
displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
 Grammar Skill – a teacher should be skilled in relation to grammar. The bulletin board
will be shown to different audiences and as much as possible they need to do well on
spelling and how the words are being connected.
 Creative and Visualization Skill- creativity should be instil in teacher’s ability in order to
have good layout designs, and give out a more appealing board to all kinds of audiences.
Furthermore, s/he should have that ability that can visualize things a putting all her
perspective into balance and apply it in her/his board in an enticing way.
 Organization skill- even though the teacher has the creative and visualization skill, s/he
needs to organize her/his material way that could lead in a more balance way, that the
audiences
 Communication skill – a teacher should known to be good in communication; however
they also need to apply this skill in creating a board, because displaying materials in this
board is conveying a message, and this kind of act is a form of communication.
 Minimalistic Skill- we should not spend so much money for something in an extravagant
way. A teacher should know how she/he can find resources in a not so expensive way.
This is to teach the students that one need not to spend too much, but instead find a
way for an alternative idea in order to achieve one’s goal morally.
2. Which of the skills you named in # 1 do you already have? Recall your past experiences in
making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
 During my school days, I haven’t experienced making board displays. However, I could
possibly consider myself having this creative and visualization skills. Though I am not
that of an expert but in some way or another I could pull it to have this make over thing
and make it far more interesting for the students.
3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on how you can
improve on or acquire these skills?
 I am not confident enough when it comes to my Grammar and Communication Skills; I
guess I need to work on this through reading, and getting back on my lessons back then.
Another one is the minimalistic instinct. I am not the typical person who really can pull
something out from a certain resources and use it. If I need to spend something on a
certain project I’ll do as much as I can to accomplish it without even thinking some
alternative ways. In order for me to develop this kind of thing, I need to get some ideas
from internet, and ask things from my seniors on how to do it.

  • 3. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 3 My Map Display board, or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one of the most readily available and versatile learning resources. To reach you target, follow the board below: Look Around a school for bulletin board displays. Pick one and evaluate the display Propose enhancements to make the display more effective.
  • 4. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 4 My Tools As you look around and examine board displays, use the activity forms provided for you to document your observations. An Observation Guide for BOARD DISPLAYS Read the following statements carefully before you observe. 1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do you see? 2. Where are the display board found? Are they in places where target viewers can see them? 3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How are the pieces of information arranged? 4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used? 5. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the like) 6. Are the messages clear and easily understood? 7. You may choose to take a photo of the display board (If allowed) OBSERVATION REPORT We did go there at AKIC-SLS last Sunday, January 26, 2014 for another observation. Upon reading this Episode, I did try as much as I can to look around at their board displays in that certain school. As far as I remember, I did saw six display boards in different places. The first thing that I did notice was the big bulletin board located in the entrance area. It contains some information like that of SSS, information on certain school related topic, names of different students which I think a classroom setting, and the names of the contributors that was imprinted in the said display board. In order to see the actual, a picture was being provided below as reference. The second display board that I did noticed was the one that was located at the faculty room. This display board contains of some information in relation to the teachers’ needs, like that of SSS
  • 5. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 5 income bracket and the amount they need to contribute, and so many attached documents that were there that seem like a flood and purely white in colour. Due to un arranged setting of these documents, someone might not be so interested to get a sneak peek on this display board. The third and the fourth display boards were located in the hallway, near the stair going to the high school department. These two were placed in front of each other. The display board on the left side was contained names of the students that achieved a good status in their academics, and a few additional information that the student needed to see. The board on the right side contained a big poster that states about the effect of this drug issue to the students health. It is some sort of warnings for the students not to engage in this kind of addiction that can cause their life into misery. A picture were provided below; The fifth display board that I did as well noticed was that of board that is located in the computer lab. One thing that is contained there was the school’s sequence chart, and other documents that were pertaining about information in relations to how the computer must be used. The last board that I saw was that one that is located in the registrar office. It contains the philosophy and the mission of the school, as well as dates on certain schedules. To some bulletin boards in this school were somehow containing not enough information for the teachers especially for the students’ FYI issue. There are no definite colours or should I say, colours that were being used in order to beautify there display boards and attract the students. It was kind of plain. There are three types of material that were being used in making this materials and these are woods, white board, and a chalk board type. The documents that were located in here somehow don’t have any errors on their spelling. They are all written well, and can be understood except for that information that was being filed up in the board area inside the faculty room. It was kind of messy. From among the board displays that you saw, pick the one that you got most interested in. Evaluate it using the evaluation form below.
  • 6. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 6 BOARD DISPLAYS EVALUATION FORM Topic of the Board Display: No sign of any specific topic. Location of the Board Display in School: Near the entrance gate. Check the column that indicates your rating. Write comments to back up ratings. 4. Outstanding 3. Very Satisfactory 2. Satisfactory 1. Needs Improvement Criteria NI 1 S 2 VS 3 O 4 Comments Effective Communication Conveys the message quickly clearly The communications were conveyed properly and clearly for those readers since it is in a poster type, and encoded. Attractiveness Colors and arrangement catch and hold interest. I guess, they need to improve this board a lot in terms of attractiveness because it is located at the entrance gate which most of the people will noticed. Balance Objects are arranged so stability is perceived. The posters were arranged accordingly as well as the papers but needs a little bit of arranging that information. Unity Repeated shapes or colors or use of borders holds display together. An improvement should be done here since you cannot see any much of a colour that can attract the students or other people. Interactivity The style and approach entice learners to be involved. There was no style that was being set up in designing this board. They just put in there and didn’t do something about designing this one. Legibility Letters and illustrations can be seen from a good distance. Words and letters were somehow readable, but not within too much distance. Correctness Free from grammar, errors, misspelled words, ambiguity. They are free from wrong grammar and misspelled words because as you can see it, they are made of posters. Durability Well-constructed, items are securely attached. This part doesn’t need any improvement. The board were made of a black board like and from the way it looks, they really put and attached there in a secure way that even a storm couldn’t take it down.
  • 7. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 7 An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin Board (Option 2) Bulletin Board Evaluated by: Jomairah T. Mulay Location: Near the Entrance Gate Brief Description of the Bulletin Board: This board seems to be a displayed board for over all information that pertains to the students and the teacher. EVALUATION Strengths Weaknesses Description of the Bulletin Board lay-out The displayed board contains of a posters that pertains to some information for the students and the teachers as well. There was no specific lay out on this displayed board as I observed it, and no definite theme that I could strongly point it out here. There were so many weaknesses in this displayed board. No theme, no designs/layout, no colours, no arrangement, no specific goal to be seen, and a lot more. Evaluation of educational content and other aspects: The content of those posters were well conveyed and legibly written for the readers to understand. In terms of conveying the appropriate content for the readers, I cannot definitely say that they did well provide the information that is needed. Recommendations or Suggestions for improvement The administrators should plan on adding a layout design on this displayed board. As much as school is concern, and promoting their good well, they need to enhance this bulletin board in a way that students, teachers and even the outsiders could noticed it immediately and realizes those things that this school could provide. They need to add colours, design, theme/topic, well balanced displayed and etc. Signature of Evaluator over Printed Name: Jomairah T. Mulay
  • 8. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 8 My Analysis Did the board display design reflect the likes/interests of its target audience? Why? Why not?  No, because of its lack of attractiveness and lacking of some other element in the said bulletin board that the target audience well not meet, and might not even read by them due to its outdated information and nothing new to be noticed by them to get interested into. Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why? Why not?  As I observed it yes, the posters were written clearly, and eligibly but this information cannot be applicable to the elementary and preschooler due to the wordings that they might not understand it at their level of understanding. What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why? Why not?  The purpose was to convey any messages to the people who come in and out from the school, since this displayed board is located at the entrance gate of the school. This was the thing I presume because we will not put something near a place where most of the people will see unless this is the main purpose. However, this was not a very effective kind of display due to its weakness as per described in the information above entitled: An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin Board (Option 2) What suggestions can you make?  The bulletin board in this place needs a highly enhancement on this part. The entrance gate is where all the people come in and out from the school, if you’re going to place a displayed board here, and then there is a big purpose. This big purpose is to convey a message to the people about something important that is related to school matters. For this reason, the faculties/administrators need to find a way to plan on a lay-out that could attract many audiences. They need to think of a theme that could give the audience that idea of their main message. The layout, design and the message that should be put in here can be change every three mos. as for the people to get a good idea once in a while.
  • 9. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 9 Based on your suggestion, purpose an enhanced version of the display board. Use the form below. My Proposed Board Display Theme: SCHOOL Activities previously and The Upcoming Events Board Title: Time to check on the brightest side! Rationale (Purpose): The purpose of this proposed board display of mine is to give the teachers, students, and the visitors the information that they needed to know in relations to school related stuff, and giving them ideas on something that is new from their sight. I would like to put up an informative side of board that could reflect the positive side of the school, and the joy in learning. Objectives: To give the teachers, students and the visitors of the school the information they needed in relation to school’s achievements, upcoming events, and an informative side of learning. Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement: I am going to use colourful materials, and a design that could attract the target audiences. If the school can facilitate a few funds for this proposed bulletin I would love to make it more entertaining for all the audiences. I would love to put up some images, cute designs, legible cut out letters, and even putting up a few crook boards inside that displayed board in order for the students to share the information they want the people know. This is also a way to give the students a freedom on how they will use their resources. Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description): Colourful materials and the lay-out designs, the material to be used in here would be cartolina, colour paper, colour pencil, highlighter, colour pen, post it and etc. This will give a stimulating attraction for the all the audiences, and used it to emphasize some information that is a must read for the audience. This would also help attract even the young children of pre-schooler, and elementary since at that young age, they love colourful things. Colour print outs for the images. I could use posters, print out materials, brochure etc that I could do with to emphasize more on the topics that needed some pictures for further information and used for visualization learning. I’ll be also be needing a glass to protect the displayed board from any unwanted disturbance. Materials for aesthetic enhancement: Since the materials alone could not be done only by me, I would be needing a donation coming from school if they could provide some funds especially for the bulletin board itself, and the glass that is
  • 10. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 10 needed, and also the payment for its set up at the school ground. If they could not or could only give a few amount. I would probably take the initiative to solicit some amount of money from my family member or friends, explaining about the purpose of this money. If there will be an excess amount, it would likely to be put as a savings for future materials that is to be used, especially that I’d be wanting to change the content of this board for every three months of the whole school year. My Portfolio Based on your suggestion, make your own board display lay-out. You may present your output through any of these:  A hand-made drawing or lay out  An electric (computer) drawing/illustration or lay out  A collage My Board Display Lay-Out
  • 11. Field Study 3 Episode 2 Bulletin Board Display Page 11 My Reflections 1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.  Grammar Skill – a teacher should be skilled in relation to grammar. The bulletin board will be shown to different audiences and as much as possible they need to do well on spelling and how the words are being connected.  Creative and Visualization Skill- creativity should be instil in teacher’s ability in order to have good layout designs, and give out a more appealing board to all kinds of audiences. Furthermore, s/he should have that ability that can visualize things a putting all her perspective into balance and apply it in her/his board in an enticing way.  Organization skill- even though the teacher has the creative and visualization skill, s/he needs to organize her/his material way that could lead in a more balance way, that the audiences  Communication skill – a teacher should known to be good in communication; however they also need to apply this skill in creating a board, because displaying materials in this board is conveying a message, and this kind of act is a form of communication.  Minimalistic Skill- we should not spend so much money for something in an extravagant way. A teacher should know how she/he can find resources in a not so expensive way. This is to teach the students that one need not to spend too much, but instead find a way for an alternative idea in order to achieve one’s goal morally. 2. Which of the skills you named in # 1 do you already have? Recall your past experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?  During my school days, I haven’t experienced making board displays. However, I could possibly consider myself having this creative and visualization skills. Though I am not that of an expert but in some way or another I could pull it to have this make over thing and make it far more interesting for the students. 3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on how you can improve on or acquire these skills?  I am not confident enough when it comes to my Grammar and Communication Skills; I guess I need to work on this through reading, and getting back on my lessons back then. Another one is the minimalistic instinct. I am not the typical person who really can pull something out from a certain resources and use it. If I need to spend something on a certain project I’ll do as much as I can to accomplish it without even thinking some alternative ways. In order for me to develop this kind of thing, I need to get some ideas from internet, and ask things from my seniors on how to do it.
