“The USPS is moving in the right direction.”
Priscilla Maney has been associated with PCC,
going back to FIM on Business Reply Mail.
The Facing Identification Mark, or FIM, is a
bar code designed by the United States Postal
Service to help in the automated processing
for mailings. The FIM are the vertical bars
(displayed below) printed on the mail piece
near the upper edge, to the left of the
postage area.
Priscilla discussed the changes that have taken
place during the past few decades.
Who uses a Road Map? It has been replaced
with GPS.
Who uses Video Stores? It has been replaced
with On Demand and Internet.
Do you remember the Phone Booth? It has
been replaced with Cell Phones.
Changing a Business Model.
It must be Relevant, Actionable  Creative.

action to ensure continued mail
delivery and to restore long-term self
sufficiency. Continuous Efficiency
Improvements Have Helped Mitigate
Effects of Business Threats. Career
Employees – Reduced by 168,000
(24%) during last six fiscal years,
without layoffs.

Expenses Exceed Revenue  The

Real mail Image Notification (RMIN)
provides images of letters and flats
directly to USPS PO box holders.
Customers can receive an email
notification allowing them to view mail
pieces destined for their PO box.
The image database also enables many
other potential revenue and cost-
savings opportunities. Benefits: PO
Box Holders know what is in their
box before they drive to pick it up.
REAL-TIME SCANNING
Provides real-time communications
and GPS.
Wireless tether for existing IMD to
minimize cost.
Reduce posting of data from 5 hours to
20 minutes.

provide a new look and feel, simplifying the registration process. The Business Customer Gateway/eAdmin Release

The Jerseyan A Message from Priscilla Maney USPS District Manager-Northern NJ Executive – In – Charge Postal Co-Chair. “The USPS is moving in the right direction.” Priscilla Maney has been associated with PCC, going back to FIM on Business Reply Mail. The Facing Identification Mark, or FIM, is a bar code designed by the United States Postal Service to help in the automated processing for mailings. The FIM are the vertical bars (displayed below) printed on the mail piece near the upper edge, to the left of the postage area. Priscilla discussed the changes that have taken place during the past few decades. Who uses a Road Map? It has been replaced with GPS. Who uses Video Stores? It has been replaced with On Demand and Internet. Do you remember the Phone Booth? It has been replaced with Cell Phones. Changing a Business Model. It must be Relevant, Actionable Creative. March 18, 2013 PCC Meeting - Guest Speaker - Dave Williams – USPS Vice President Network Operations FUTURE OF THE POSTAL SERVICE “Thank you to all the employees of the United States Postal Service who responded to Hurricane Sandy.” CURRENT STATE Ongoing Financial Challenges. The Prequel: Fifty-Two Billion Piece Drop – Mail Volume Decline: 25% from 2007 to 2012. $41B of Net Losses. Dire financial position requires urgent action to ensure continued mail delivery and to restore long-term self sufficiency. Continuous Efficiency Improvements Have Helped Mitigate Effects of Business Threats. Career Employees – Reduced by 168,000 (24%) during last six fiscal years, without layoffs. PRELIMINARY 5 YEAR PLAN Expenses Exceed Revenue The Gap is Growing. Baseline Expense Outlook before any initiatives. RHB Pre-Funding ends. Shipping/Packages increase. First-Class Decline. Profit Margin by Mail Class, it takes $3 in Package revenue to make up the profitability of every dollar lost in First-class Mail revenue. INITIATIVES – INCREASING EFFICIENCY – ANNUAL SAVINGS OF $8.7 BILLION Revenue Growth Cost Reductions. Loss of contribution from First-Class Mail is Driving Continuing Trend of Operating Losses. To remain viable, must continue to cut costs and improve efficiency. Legislative action is also required to give the Postal Service commercial flexibility and authority to generate new revenue and adapt to changing business conditions. Summary of Operation Initiatives: Retail Acceptance Savings: $1.7 Processing Transportation Savings: $3.1B Delivery Savings: $2.0B Six-Day Packages/Five-Day mail Savings: $1.9 B LEGISLATIVE ACTION – KEY LEGISLATIVE GOALS – ANNUAL SAVINGS OF $8.3 BILLION Require USPS Health Care Plan (Resolves RHB Prepayment Issue). Refund FERS Overpayment. Streamline Governance Model. Authority to Expand Products Services. Require Defined Contribution System for Future Postal Employees. Instructions to Arbitrator. Reform Workers’ Compensation. Right to Appeal EEOC Class Action Decisions. Unnecessary Healthcare Costs Lead to Poor Financial Health. FERS: $6 Billion Refund/$300 Million Reduction Annually. REAL MAIL IMAGE NOTIFICATION (RMIN) Real mail Image Notification (RMIN) provides images of letters and flats directly to USPS PO box holders. Customers can receive an email notification allowing them to view mail pieces destined for their PO box. The image database also enables many other potential revenue and cost- savings opportunities. Benefits: PO Box Holders know what is in their box before they drive to pick it up. REAL-TIME SCANNING Provides real-time communications and GPS. Wireless tether for existing IMD to minimize cost. Reduce posting of data from 5 hours to 20 minutes. The mailing industry is critical for the U.S. Economy. 160 Billion pieces delivered annually to 150 million addresses.
