2. Culture
Brazil has a very rich culture with influences from a large
variety of different ethic groups and other countries.
Immigration during the 19th and 20th centuries brought
Portuguese, Africans, Italians, Germans, Arabs and Japanese
to live along side the natives.
Portuguese is the official language spoken there, along with
180 different indigenous languages of the natives.
3. Cuisine
Just as races and languages are abundant due to the
diversity of Brazil’s people, so are the different types of
food. The Feijoada, a dish made with salted pork and
black beans, is the countries national dish. A

4. Art
In 1816 the French Artistic
Mission created the Imperial
Academy of Fine Arts setting
the stage for a revolution of
the arts in Brazil. Under
Emperor Don Pedro II the
Academy peaked with the
famous romantic painters
Victor Meirelles and Pedro
Americo at its forefront.
5. Music
Brazil is famous for its diversity in music. The
samba, bossa nova, maracatu and frevo are just
a few of the well known styles to have emerged
there. The samba is the most popular style of
the nation, filled with African rhythms and novel
instruments.
6. Brazilian Carnival
A very famous aspect of Brazilian culture is the
Carnival, happening annually 46 days before Easter.
Its roots are
Christian/Catholic mixed
with a pagan festival called
Saturnalia. Carnival is huge
for Brazil. 70% of the
countries tourism and 80%
of its beer consumption can
be attributed to this
celebration.
