Bullying is purposefully controlling or harming another person through verbal abuse like teasing or threats, exclusion, or physical violence. It is estimated that 1.6 million US students are bullied weekly and 150,000 victims skip school to avoid it. Bullying can be learned and occur at any age, with girls more likely to bully socially. Being bullied can lead to relationship issues, depression, low self-esteem, and suicide. In the classroom, bullying causes distraction and displays victims' feelings, but punishing bullies can deter future incidents and encouraging support for each other.
