With the coming of the Chinese New Year, it is an appropriate time to look at some of the Chinese Folk Art. For generation of Chinese, New Year is that time put up prints and posters to decorate their home. Folk Art is the foundation on which popular culture is built on and social values reaffirmed.

2. The Chinese New Year print became popular during
the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), after the
unification of the country. These were printed by
using woodblock. These prints were available in the
Chinese New Year for the people to decorate their
homes during the festive season. The main theme of
the print was to express the hopes and the wishes of
the owner for a prosperous year ahead. In addition,
the prints were used to educate the illiterate peasants
to follow the traditional virtues such as filial piety.
