In 2005, concerned citizens in Asheville began to dream of a new school specifically designed for students from Asheville’s under-resourced communities

In the fall of 2005 an after school tutoring program was started in space that is owned by Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Walton Street

The Achievement Gap: In Asheville less than half of African-American students of any income level passed both the reading and math state approved ABC end-of-grade test (Asheville Middle School 06-07) ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Only 25-36% of black males in Asheville graduate in 4 years. There has been a dramatic rise in gangs, drug activity and violent crime in Asheville.

Many Solutions Have Been Tried Within the Public Schools ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

In 2006 New City Christian School opened with three simple goals ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
