BACKGROUNDER
Founded in 2004, the Empire City Sports Network provides coverage to the professional
and collegiate basketball, baseball and hockey teams that are located in the New York-
Metropolitan media market. The founder of the network, Erick Ippolito, decided to start a
Manhattan-based broadcasting company that would television the games to the residents in New
York, Northern New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut.
Presently, Empire City Sports Network garners impressive ratings from the households in
the Northeastern Tri-State Area. Over its eight years of existence, it has averaged a household
rating of 4.1, making it the second-most watched sports network in the region, only behind ESPN.
By covering various sports at different levels, the Empire City Sports Network has shown its
capability to consistently cater at a high level to such a diverse region.
Considering methods that would eventually get other media outlets to use our company’s
footage on a more consistent basis has been a conundrum that the company has been to find a
solution for. Currently, ESPN occasionally airs our footage, but we would like to expand on that
to other media outlets.
The company is heading in a positive direction, thanks to the increased ratings that our
station generates on a daily basis. The employees at Empire City Sports Network are not satisfied
with that, and are looking for ways to constantly improve their services.

More
ECSN—New York Yankees Convention
“This event will be the first that the Empire City Sports Network will host. I couldn’t think of a
better way to possibly do it, than by having members of a storied franchise like the Yankees
agreeing to come here. This will also be a great opportunity for people who are interested in
sports broadcasting to see the inside of a company that does just that.” said Erick Ippolitio,
Empire City Sports Network president. Ippolito continued, “We know how passionate people in
the New York-Metropolitan area are about sports. That especially rings true for one of the most
successful sports franchises, that just happens to be located right here in the Big Apple. We are
pleased to offer this opportunity to meet Yankee legends to some of the best fans that baseball
has to offer.”
The Empire City Sports Network is a for-profit organization that was established in 2004. The
ECSN is committed to providing the best broadcasting and news to viewers in the New York
area. Over the company’s years of existence, it has consistently garnered high ratings in a top
media market. The ECSN routinely offers promotions to viewers of the network.

Colin Myler
New York Daily News
Dear Mr. Myler,
Next month, the Empire City Sports Network plans to finalize an agreement with the FOX Network. The
deal will have the FOX Network air footage gathered by the ECSN during their sports timeslot on a daily
basis for the next nine years. This will be the ECSN’s first major partnership with a major television
outlet.
As you are likely aware of already, people who live and work in this region have a strong passion for
sports. That has been shown in the impressive attendance numbers for local games, to the discussions on
radio and television stations, and even when people pick up the newspaper for information regarding their
favorite teams.
This new partnership between two television broadcasting stations is estimated to have an impact on more
than 22 million people. This merger will allow people to have more opportunities to take advantage of the
benefits that come with consistently being exposed to the ECSN’s content.
We are sure that readers of the New York Daily News will want to learn more about the specifics of the
impact that this merger will have on them. Please feel free to contact Erick Ippolito, President, at (800)
408-9435. If you need more information, please inform me.

Arthur Sulzberger
New York Times
Dear Mr. Sulzberger,
This week, the Empire City Sports Network is planning to give away 150 free tickets to Game Four of the
NBA playoff series at Madison Square Garden involving the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat. The
winners will be selected through the ECSN website, where participants can enter their names into the
drawing. On May 1, the winners will be selected and have their tickets sent t them through an e-mail
address.
As you may be aware of, tickets for Knicks games are usually in high demand, and are normally too
expensive for most people in an economy like this. That is why the ECSN wants to offer diehard fans the
opportunity to cheer on their team in what is sure to be an intense environment, in the “Mecca of
Basketball.” This promotion will hopefully show viewers show how the ECSN cares about its valuable
customers.
We are sure that readers of the New York Times will be interested in learning more about the ECSN’s
promotion involving New York’s basketball team. We look forward to assisting you in any way we can.
Please feel free to contact Erick Ippolito, President, at (800) 408-9435. If you need more information,
please inform me.
Thanks for your attention.
