The condition in which your finger bends down at the
end joint and you cannot make it straight is called to
have a mallet finger. One suffers this due to the injury
to the tendon that aids in straightening the finger.
Generally, it is a common athletic injury and basketball
and baseball players often experience jammed fingers.
However, it can also cause due to a severe accident on
the job or due to a cut in the finger while working in

Symptoms:
Pain and swelling of the finger is one of the main symptoms. If you suffer from this finger
condition than after you injure your finger, it will lie in a bent (flexed) position, and you will
find it difficult to straighten or extend it at the end.
Causes:
Injury at the outermost joint of the finger is the main cause of mallet finger and in this
situation, the tendon situated at the back of the finger is alienated from the joint it
connects. Three types of injuries commonly occur and they are:
Thetendonis damaged, but thereareno fractures.
Thetendonsplits witha littlefractureresultedbytheinjury.
Thetendonbreaks witha largefracture.
In the injury you may also suffer fromfinger fractures and it may cause if there is a break in
one or more of the bones in your finger. Your finger may fracture your finger most commonly
by a direct blow to the finger. In most cases, it can be cured by wearing a splint day and night
for 6-8 weeks.
