• Discuss the different phases of setting up a blog:
Conception, Implementation & Promotion.

• Learn best practices for blogging.
• Discover how to attract readers to your blog.
• Learn how to promote your blog utilizing social media and
email platforms.

• Syndicating your content.
Planning Your Blog
Step 1:
Conception
Conception
• Choose a topic that:
• You are passionate about.
• Something you can commit to writing about on a consistent
basis.

• Provides a lot of content and is newsworthy/interesting.
• Broader topics/ideas are always better and easier to have too
many topics rather than searching for items to discuss.

• Choose a topic:
• Build a list of topics – May not get to everything but at least have
a running list of potential topics to go too.

• Posting Schedule – how often will your write?
• Develop an Editorial Calendar - Plan out posts, holidays, events,
industry news, etc. It’s ok to reorg list - may never get to
something, or if possible revisit later (news updates).

• What’s in a name? Is it:

Catchy?

Easy to remember?

•

Tied to the content of your blog?

• Do you have/need a tagline?
• Develop a logo.

• Find a host and/or buy a domain (depends on which
platform you use, you can get both).

• GoDaddy

• Typepad

• Wordpress

• Tumblr etc.

• Blogger

• Medium

• SquareSpace

• Think about the tone of your blog.
• Set up your theme and layout.
• Organized.
• Clean.

• Easy on the eyes.
• Develop a clean template/style that works with your content.

• Choosing a style guide for consistency.

• Guest Blogging – Allow or do for others.
• Advertising – Could you see advertisers being interested in
paying to advertise on your site?

• Is there an opportunity to expand talk about other
topics? Is the site flexible for this?
