2. Reinforcement for Rules:
Most parents wonder why their rules fail or DO NOT turn effective with their children. The problem is
neither with parents nor their rules. The only thing that lacks here is REINFORCEMENT. Think about this,
why would your child hear you or your instructions, unless they have their interests fulfilled out of it? Or
even why would you, get into anything unless it serves your interest?

Children who are in pre-adolescence (tweens); and who have ADD, Aspergers or similar conditions often
fail to comply with acceptable behaviors. It is not that they intend to do so. In such situations, a behavior
contract can serve as a good guide for such kids to carry out day to day functions with easy and
explainable rules and instructions.

By implementing a behavior contract which will be in WRITING you are clearly communicating the
expectations and the consequences that will be effective on violations. Tending to this, your teens will
think more than once before even acting or behaving in a way that is not according the contract. Here
you and your teen both share a clear and common understanding of an acceptable behavior.
Home Based and Harmless (Non-Hazardous) Behavior Modification:
Today you will find very rare home based options for your teen's behavior modification, i.e. you may
have to send your child away from your home letting him/her to the mercy of others, where emotional
nurturing will not be guaranteed. Further it can cost you and your youngster very dearly. So additionally
behavior contract is a MUTUAL and fair arrangement rather an enforced one (which may either be
unacceptable or less suitable to your teen).
