Injecting old, used water from oil and gas drilling in California has been tied to earthquakes for the first time, according to a new study released Thursday. Wastewater injections have already been tied to earthquakes in Colorado and Oklahoma.
The study comes as fracking in California is growing in scope — and in attention. During fracking, chemical-laced, saline water is injected at high pressure thousands of meters underground, loosening deposits of oil and gas. The process, as well as other forms of so-called enhanced oil recovery, creates huge amounts of wastewater, which is often disposed of by being injected into storage wells. (It is also occasionally reused in agriculture or dumped in the ocean.)

2. • Dangerous
• Water waste
• Toxic chemicals
• Tanker trucks
• Contaminates water wells
• Environmental hazard
3. • The water brought in is mixed with
sand and chemicals to create fracking
fluid. Approximately 40,000 gallons of
chemicals are used per fracturing.
• Left Behind
• Only 30-50% of the fracturing fluid is
recovered, the rest of the toxic fluid is
left in the ground and is not
biodegradable.

15. • In reality racking in California is getting worse by the minute danger is definitely considered
to be on a high alerts of watching out for earthquakes and more , meaning that this would
turn into a high increase of underground injection oil as well as wastewater production . By
Extracting oil from the the Monterey Shale this would raise as high trillion gallons of
unhealthy wastewater, In California this issue would cause major damage to human society .
• The United States is very much involved in oil business meaning that oil fracking “Rise” in
California could set the risk bar factor off it’s meter subjecting to the risk of a shocking
earthquake disaster in some of the best well known cities and states . (2015. Fracking
Boom Would Increase California's Earthquake Danger, Report )
• While there has been serious threats to air and water and the health of human beings , our
emerging and us as the people in the world could be at risk of induced seismicity this would
also be considered a another reason for a pause on fracking in California and other states as
well .
• We as the people living in California are at a serious and major risk for induced earthquake.
The oil industry targets over a hundred of wastewater injections that are very close to faults
that can erupt without a drop of a dime and may hit as close to Bakersfield California and Los
Angeles California population centers.
• Halting might be just be of one and many ways of fracking in California to name some
solutions earthquake risk factors to wastewater disposal, as well as unconventional oil
production’s other environmental risks, is to halt acidizing, hydraulic fracturing, and other
serious gas and oil recovery. (2015 , Halting Fracking in California: The Time Is Now. )
• Allot of information coming from scientific research pertains to fracking being a very serious
issue in California health of the people . Fracking operations could pertain to the use of any
chemicals .Certain chemicals could play a big role the environment meaning that health
threats will generate even more throughout the communities if we as the people and the
government do something about these factors and as soon as possible .(2015 , Halting

Most of the chemical use in the fracking process are not disclose
It is estimated between 1-8 millions of gallons of water are used per fracking site
Some of the chemicals used during the fracking process include lead, uranium, mercury, methanol and included others that are not disclose
The fracking process leaves hazardous materials in the ground as well as gaps in the ground creating movement or earthquakes in the areas of the fracking
danger is definitely considered to be on a high alerts of watching out for earthquakes and more , meaning that this would turn into a high increase of underground injection oil as well as wastewater production .
While there has been serious threats to air and water and the health of human beings , our emerging and us as the people in the world could be at risk of induced seismicity .
1. Our Water is threatened by methane contamination tied to drilling and the fracturing of rock formations. This problem has been highlighted by footage of people in fracked areas setting fire to methane-laced water from kitchen faucets and more .
2. Fracking has been documented in 10 California counties just to name a few such as Colusa, Glenn, Kern, Los Angeles, Monterey, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Sutter, Kings and . Oil companies have also fracked offshore wells hundreds of times in the ocean near California’s coast, from Seal Beach to the Santa Barbara Channel.Oil companies are increasingly interested in using fracking and other dangerously extreme fossil fuel extraction methods in the Monterey Shale. This geological formation under the San Joaquin and the Los Angeles basins may hold a large amount of extraordinarily dirty, carbon intensive oil.
3.Fracking routinely employs numerous toxic chemicals, including methanol, benzene, naphthalene to name a few. About 25 percent of fracking chemicals could cause cancer. Water quality can also be threatened by methane contamination tied to drilling and the fracturing of rock formations
Many ways of fracking in California to name some solutions earthquake risk factors to wastewater disposal, as well as unconventional oil production’s other environmental risks, is to halt acidizing, hydraulic fracturing, and other serious gas and oil recovery.
Some machinery needs to be at a certain standard to follow policies.
Clean air act controls air pollution at the federal level. Treats each individual well as a source of pollutants and does not require well operators to consider the aggregate impact of many wells in a specific area.
Clean water Act, ensures that surface waters meet minimum pollution standards. Fracking fluids are exempt from classification as pollutants even though more common pollutants such as storm run-off are included.
The Safe Water Drinking Act protects the quality of the country's groundwater and drinking water supply. Amended in 2005 to exclude injection wells.
The irony of fracking: It destroys the natural resource it needs most. The tragedy for those living nearby fracking operations: That natural resource is the fresh—and increasingly scarce—water supply on which they, too, depend.
Environmental noise caused by oil and gas drilling activities is often overlooked entirely or rejected as a minor, temporary nuisance by industry and regulators alike – despite the fact that drilling and other activities at well sites are very noisy and can be close to homes.
Researchers found that people living within three miles of a fracking site could be exposed to pollution levels that are significantly higher than the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) deems safe.
Fracking allows us to access more natural gas and oil than ever before. As the world’s supplies of these resources continue to dwindle, finding new methods to obtain additional oil and gas becomes more and more important. Scientists estimate that these resources will begin to run out during our lifetimes, so until we find a true replacement fuel, fracking is likely here to stay.
By using natural gas to generate electricity instead of coal, the resulting improvement to air quality is easy to quantify. When natural gas is used, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced significantly, which leads to a marked decrease in air pollution. Toxins that would normally be released into the air are no longer a danger. Mercury and ash emissions are also eradicated.
Fracking also allows the United States to decrease its dependency on foreign oil. As population continues to increase, with no end to the nation’s potentially crippling oil addiction in sight, it pays to uncover more domestic sources for oil.
The Alert poses technical considerations for fracking, including: avoiding fracking in areas of water scarcity, dense population or agriculture; requiring training and oversight for waste disposal, spills, and leaks; using gas separation during drilling; and designing injection wells to minimize risk of carbon dioxide reaction.
the U.S. Interior Department said that drillers on federal land must reveal the chemicals they use, meet construction standards for wells and safely dispose of contaminated water.
support for fracking stood at 48 percent in March of 2013, versus 38 percent opposition. But as of November 2014, Americans have flipped their position: 41 percent now favor the process while 47 percent oppose it. And while support fell across all demographic groups, the biggest drops — all 10 percentage points or more — occurred among women, voters under age 49, those with some college education, Midwesterners, and independent voters.
Support among Democratic voters dropped nearly as much, from 54 percent to 43 percent. In fact, slightly more Democrats now reject the pipeline than favor it.
Meanwhile, the partisan gap over the issue increased slightly, as Republican support ticked up from 82 percent to 83 percent.
