2. Visual mood board of similar films and
influences
A repetitive genre in these films is action, in the film Warrior
is an action film and was an influence on the idea of the film.
3. Title
• The title of the film is: Fighting to Survive
• I chose this because it fits in with the narrative
of the film.
• I feel that the film title is catchy and will relate
to the viewers because they will fix on the
“survive” part of the title and will get them
asking questions on what the film could be
about.
4. Narrative:
• The film is about the life of two boys, who both come from
different backgrounds one of the boys is from a rich family
who live in a massive house and pay for private education
for their son. Whereas the other boy is an orphan who is
living on the streets.
• These boys are from totally different worlds one is fighting
with his siblings over who gets the better car for their
birthday whereas the other is fighting with other people to
“Survive”
• These boys meet one day at a boxing club and the richer
boy makes fun of the boy living off the street, but then
looses in the boxing ring to him and gets the other boy
banned from the club.
5. Narrative:
• The story then turns to later life where the boy who was
living off the street was picked up by an MMA scout and
now is fighting in the UFC. Whereas the richer boy is in
trouble because his mother and father died and left him
with a whole lot of debt to pay for, he then realises that he
cannot afford to pay it off and ends up bankrupt.
• He then turns to a local gym and starts to train for a big
fighting tournament where the main prize could see him
back in the life he knows.
• At the gym he becomes really close to another fighter and
as they set up to fight each other in the grand final they
realise who each other are.
6. Opening Scene
• The opening scene will compare the lives of the two boys. It will show the
two boys waking up and their morning routine and how different they are.
• It will show the two boys waking up and how one wakes up to a full English
breakfast whereas the other has to steal from a market stool for his
breakfast.
• It then leads to the boy picking out his clothes that are all laid out on his
bed and ready for him, whereas the other looking in a charity bin for a
clean t-shirt.
• It then goes onto the boy running to his parents car to try and get front seat
and the other running from a gang of hooded teenagers.
• The screen then goes merges and will show the boxing club/ school and the
two boys walking into the club. It will show the richer boy with a group of
friends whereas the poorer boy will be on his own.
7. Genre
• The genre of this film is action
• The convention of action will be shown
through the scenes that will be action packed
such as the fighting scenes.
• In the opening scene the poor boy is chased
by a shop owner who he steals the food off of.
This shows action from the beginning of the
film.
8. Target Audience
• The BBFC certificate of this film will be 15. This
will give me a target audience of older teenagers
but it will also relate to adults also.
• My film will relate to the target audience because
the beginning of the film is about people who are
the same age group so they can relate to how
would they feel if they were living on the streets.
• There will be a lot of violence and scenes that
may not suit the younger viewers that is why I
chose a 15 certificate.
9. Setting
• The main setting for the first part of the film
will be mainly on the streets or at school, but
there is one scene where they will be in a
gym.
• Later on in the film the main settings will be
the gym and the stadium where the
competition takes place.
10. Themes
• Well even know its an action based film there
are a lot of themes in the film:
• Anger, Belief, Regret, Happiness, Friendship
etc.
11. Character profile
• The homeless boy:
• Gender: Male
• Needs to be a quite a dark
sort of character about 16
years old.
12. Character profile
• Rich Boy
• Gender: Male
• Needs to look well off. Only
cares about money and
expensive things.
• 16-18 years old
13. Textual Analysis
• I would like to include many camera shots as I can for
example match on action shot and reverse shot.
• The sound will always match what is happening in the
scene so if it’s a dramatic scene then there will be
dramatic music.
• There will be editing and cutting to make the film look
more professional and so it flows correctly and is easy
to follow.
• The costumes will be important at the begging of the
film because it will show the different types of class
that the two boys have and will show how one is
struggling to survive.
14. Institution
• Lionsgate
• This company is use to making big films and is
known for the action films that they have
created e.g The Hunger Games. They have
exactly what I need to make this film a
success.
15. Advertising
• I will use:
• TV
• There will be a trailer produced for the cinema to
be played when people are waiting to watch
other action movies/ 15’s. This will then help get
the film advertised to the target audience.
• There will also be a twitter and Facebook page
which will have unseen clips of the film, talks with
the cast and also a competition.
