Workshop Objectives
• To develop the knowledge and skills of practitioners to create
innovative programmes of learning for employability and
functional skills.
• Identify the skills required by learners and how they are put
into practise to seek employment in line with current
recruitment trends.
• Identify a range of digital tools used in the workplace and
raise awareness of how these can be used to develop digital
and functional skills and can be used to deliver learning.
• Learn how knowledge on safe use of technology and online
social responsibilities in the workplace can be integrated with
functional skills.

Tips for Online Job Seeking
Create complete well developed profiles that are keyword rich.
Research and use the keywords that are the best fit for your skills and
qualifications as found in job adverts.
A headline of your profile should be that you are job seeking.
Follow people and companies who are in the industry you are
interested in.
Join relevant groups and lists to research what is going on in your
industry and to participate in discussions.
Share interesting topics from people in your industry – it shouldn’t be
about self-promotion. Share others' stuff before you share your own.
Recruiters have to be able to find you, so your profile must be public.

Digital Skills required to seek employment.
Virtually all young people are familiar with electronic games and social networking
and might be considered as "digital natives", but they are not "digitally competent"
in the sense that they do not know sufficiently how to use the digital world in a
business context. By 2015, 90% of jobs will need e-skills. It is a precondition to
become employable, learn and find a job online.

Carry out research into ICT security threats and produce a website on the subject for your
colleagues. Share your project progress with your tutor and manager.
1. Use ICT to Plan your project:
a. What will be included in your plan?
b. How will you share your progress with others?
c. How will you record your planning?
d. Where will you store your files?
2. Use ICT to carry out your research:
a. Carry out initial research to decide on the topics you will cover
b. Record how you search for information
c. Obtain images for your website, note how you have ensured you can use them legally
d. Collate the information that you will you use for your website
e. Record how you evaluate the sources that you use
3. Organise a folder structure for your files that can be shared with your tutor
4. Draft the text for your website in an appropriate application
5. Create the structure for your website
6. Add text, images and useful links to your website
7. Share the link to your website via email
The requirement is to create a website for your colleagues on ICT security threats. Provide examples
of threats, the impact, and how to put safeguarding measures in place. To achieve this, work through
module 1 completing the games and quizzes. Then start the project.
Example ICT L2 Project
In the course you’ll be sharing a house with
four others. You’ve all been selected for the
London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
You’ll have to make decisions and help your
flatmates out.

Workshop Objectives • To develop the knowledge and skills of practitioners to create innovative programmes of learning for employability and functional skills. • Identify the skills required by learners and how they are put into practise to seek employment in line with current recruitment trends. • Identify a range of digital tools used in the workplace and raise awareness of how these can be used to develop digital and functional skills and can be used to deliver learning. • Learn how knowledge on safe use of technology and online social responsibilities in the workplace can be integrated with functional skills.
  • 3. Why should job seekers be on the web? An online presence to supplement your resume definitely enhances your offerings as a candidate. You want to have a digital presence on the web so that recruiters can find you. The web provides the opportunity to showcase your talents, personality, style, and interests. It shows employers you are internet savvy and have a good understanding of social media. 77% of recruiters regularly search the internet for information on prospective employees prior to hiring. 87% of the 100 million LinkedIn users are using it for recruitment. 94% of recruiters use social media to support recruitment. 42% of recruiters have reconsidered a candidate based on content viewed in a social profile, leading to both positive and negative re- assessments

Research and use the keywords that are the best fit for your skills and qualifications as found in job adverts. A headline of your profile should be that you are job seeking. Share interesting topics from people in your industry – it shouldn’t be about self-promotion. Share others' stuff before you share your own.
