Economically:
• Limited access to cash and credit ( according to 2012 World Bank study, only 26% of women in India
have an account with the formal financial institutions).
• Limited access to employment in formal and informal sector ( employment of women in organised
sector is less than 8%, in urban areas is only 13.9%, while in rural areas 29.9%.
Socially:
• Security of women in India
• Early marriage ( nearly 60% of married girls bear children before they are 19yrs often deficient in
nutrition which directly accounts to 15-20% of all maternal deaths in India. 87% of all pregnant women are
anemic)
• Disproportionate sex ratio( our current sex ratio is 923 females/1000 males)
Politically:
• Highly unequal access to political rights( less than 8% of parliamentary seats, less than 6% cabinet
positions, less than 4% of seats in high courts and supreme court have been occupied by women.
• The average %age of women representation in the parliament, assemblies, and the counsel of
ministers taken together has been around only 10%. )
Women
Empowerment
Economic Factors
Microfinance programs
Management and
decision making
Non-Economic Factors
1. Behavioural
2. Communication
3. Mobility
Rattling characterstics of Women Jeopardy:
• Lack of Awareness
• Illiteracy.
• lack of training.
• More discrimination between men and women.
.
India consists of 614.4 million female however crime against
women is rising day by day
• Its seen that Kerala is the state that
have maximum crime.
• Although there is an increase in
expenditure on women safety, but
the safety rate is falling down.
PROBLEM SOLUTION
IMPLEMENTATION
1. Lack of employment •Private sectors organization, business
chain work and NGOs could be supported
to strengthen the demand for gender
sensitive laws regarding inheritance and
ownership, and conduct awareness raising
programs on woman rights to decent
employment.
•Other modernity is to support networking
and facilitate organization among women.
• Government should focus on creation of
women empowerment fund which
includes:
• women entrepreneurs on principles of
corporate, savings and credits.
• business plan preparation and
bookkeeping.
• Marketing and technical understanding
of income generation package.
•Formation of a new
committee which will
focus on providing funds
for employment.
Allocation of resources
Starting from
metropolitan cities to
rural areas
•Minimum expenditure
required is 300Cr. per
annum.
• the expenditure made
should be in the ratio of
7:3 between the Central
Government and State
Government.
PROBLEM SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION
2. Lack of housing facilities for
single women.
•Providing housing facilities to single working
women would solve the hindrance of security
issues.
e.g. By making 50 flats for women or 60
apartments in an area.
•Proper sanitation and dinking facilities.
• By allocation of funds to various
regions based on the following
weightage:
 75% weightage to single working
women
 25% to below poverty line women
• funding can be allocated on cost
sharing basis between the Central and
Sate Government in the 75%:25% ratio.
P ROBLEM SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION
Lack of proper health facility
and sanitation.
• By providing free or lower value iodine to
pregnant women, especially in rural sector
because:
20% of child’s brain development occurs
during pregnancy and iodine is the major
component.
• Involvement of women in maintenance and
development programs especially for the rural
areas for providing provision such as, proper
drinking water facilities and proper sanitation
• Putting up stalls having lower cost
iodine in various areas.
• By providing proper nutrition to
women after the child birth.
• Tying up with WHO for proper health
facilities.
• Government should start dumping
system in rural areas.
PROBLEM SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION
Lack of enterprise development,
supply chain and marketing
practices.
• By expanding business relationships with
women-owned enterprises, including small
businesses, and women entrepreneurs.
• By supporting the gender-sensitive solutions
to credit and lending barriers.
• By asking business partners to respect the
company’s commitment to advancing equality.
• By respecting the dignity of women in all
marketing and other company materials.
• By ensuring that the company products,
services and facilities provided are not used
for human trafficking or labour or any sexual
exploitation.
Creation of trade union confederation
of India that should implement a
programme to improve the rights of
women market vendors which includes
collective bargaining with the
municipalities to provide a safe
working environment and prevent
sexual harassment from customers,
promote management training, provide
business premises at affordable rates,
improve knowledge on legal rights.
The women incubator can be set up to
benefit female micro and small scale
enterprises through a 15cr investment
from the Indian government and this
would be beneficial around 50 women
owned businesses and a result close to
3000 jobs can be created.
PROBLEM
•Lack of safety and security issues.
SOLUTION
• Women should be included in the decision-making when the policies are being created by the
Government. In this way, we will be in a better position to fulfil their responsibility to ensure the safety of
their residents especially, women and girls.
IMPLEMENT
ATION
•The national Government should adopt women safety audits whereby local women identify safety and
security conditions in their neighbourhood, which are incorporated into urban planning.
•Government should appoint women communities which shall identify safety risk in ten of the cities’
high-risk slums.
•There should be partnership between the UN Women and the States and the local Government
organization. In this efforts will focus on collecting local data on female political participation, and
expanding successful safe cities activities.
• It would increase women participation in various sectors.
• it would increase women access to education, health and justice and will generate jobs
sooner.
• The crime rate will fall at a big scale.
• It helps in promoting equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
• Women’s participation in labour force grew faster, the economy will experience the largest
reduction and poverty rates.
• Women farmers can access the resources they need, their production increases, making it less
likely that their families are hungry and malnourished.
