Starting a discussion on linked in
1. Starting a Discussion on LinkedIn
From the menu bar; choose the “Groups” button, then choose from the menu (for this
example I choose the Department of Defense), you will then be directed to the groups’
homepage.
To start a discussion in LinkedIn, you need to be a member of a group. This is one of the
easier tasks within LinkedIn. Find a group that is similar in nature to your profession and/
or skill set and click “Join Group”.
2. In the chat bar you have many options:
1. You can either ask a question
2. Attach an article from a website
3. Combine 1 and 2 for even more engagement
4. You can even post job openings at your place of employment
5. Or just have a conversation with others in the group
Almost anything can be posted to start a discussion. Just keep in mind the type of group
you are posting in. Every group, especially the private ones have moderators that don’t
like when people discuss something that does not add to the value of the group or have
any relevance to the group. For example, having marketing discussions in a finance club
will not work and the end result could be your dismissal from the group.
