10.30 We reach Sinaia where we go to visit Peles Castle. King Carol I of Romania
choose to build his summer residence, Peleş Castle , near the town of Sinaia. The city is a popular
destination for hiking and winter sports, especially downhill skiing. Among the tourist landmarks, the most
important are Peleş Castle, Pelişor Castle, Sinaia Monastery.
Peles Castle is considered by many one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The building of the
castle began in 1873 and was continued in 1876. The castle was built in wood, stone, bricks and marble
and comprises more than 160 rooms. The representative style used is German Renaissance, but one
can easily discover elements belonging to the Italian Renaissance, Gothic, German Baroque and French
Rococo style. Besides, the castel, unlike other castles of Europe, Peles was primarily endowed with all
moders facilities like central heating, electricity, elevator.
Pelişor Castle is a part of the same complex as the larger castle of Peleş. It was built in 1899–1903 by
order of King Carol I, as the residence for his nephew and heir, the future King Ferdinand (son of Carol's
brother Leopold von Hohenzollern) and Ferdinand's consort Queen Marie.
Go for lunch to the restaurant close to the castle.

13. 30 we set off to Bran to visit the castle that people imagine to have inspired Bram HOLIDAY
Stoker in his novel Dracula.
15.00 We go to Bran to visit Bran castle
Bran Castle, situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, close to Brasov city.
The first documented mentioning of Bran Castle is the act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19,
1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Braşov) the privilege to build the stone citadel on their own
expense and labor force; the settlement of Bran began to develop nearby. In 1438-1442, the castle was
used in defense against the Ottoman Empire, and later became a customs post on the mountain pass
between Transylvania and Wallachia.
Even if people come to visit Bran castle for Dracula Character, Vlad Ţepeş (Vlad the Impaler) (1448-
1476) does not seem to have had a significant role in the history of the fortress, except passing several
times through the Bran Gorge.
