Did you know that the Eclipse Foundation is home to many open source implementations of standards from a dozen of standards defining organizations: IETF, ISO, oneM2M, OASIS, etc. We do believe that open source is key to standards' adoption, and this presentation shares some thoughts on what makes a standard successful, and how Eclipse has proved with recent success stories that open source and open communities are a key factor.

On making standards organizations & open source communities work hand in hand

This presentation displays the combination of existing MQTT message transport technologies provided by the Eclipse Paho IoT technologies combined with the Eclipse Tahu technology in making this technology applicable to the OT sector by defining the MQTT semantics of Topic Namespace, Process Variable centric Payloads and State Awareness of MQTT but applying that to IT-centric requirements of OT tag metrics and context. We need/must apply the same notions of the IoP to the IIoT. But we must satisfy the OT requirements of real-time, mission-critical aspects of the infrastructure first while embracing required IIoT hooks.

The most notable impact of using SW in the automotive domain is the decrease in fatalities as ADAS functions are more widely employed. On the other hand, SW complexity has seen an almost exponential growth reaching about 100 million lines of code. Hardly any organization can tackle this challenge alone. The Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Working Group ’s mission is to foster collaboration across industries to create an open technology platform for the software defined vehicle of the future. The working group community driven by its 40 member organization has chosen a “code first” approach to facilitate more agile and faster time-to-market software development. After its formation about a year ago, the SDV WG has onboarded about 20 open source projects and is working on integrating several projects together to create “blueprints”. The frameworks emerging from these initial blueprints show the potential and benefits of utilizing different projects as components to build broader solutions to address more complex problems This contribution introduces the SDV WG and Community, as well as its projects and capabilities.

Introduction To Open Web Protocols

This is the slides presented at FOSS4G N.A. Conference. This presentation will introduce and demonstrate the OGC SensorThings API. The OGC SensorThings API is a new Open Geospatial Consortium standard that provides an open and unified way to interconnect the Internet of Things (IoT) devices, data, and applications over the Web. Unlike the traditional OGC standards, SensorThings API is very simple and efficient. At the same time, it is also comprehensive and designed to handle complex use cases. It builds on a rich set of proven-working and widely-adopted open standards, such as the OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards, including the ISO/OGC Observation and Measurement (O&M) and Sensor Observation Services (SOS). The main difference between the SensorThings API and the OGC SOS is that the SensorThings API is designed specifically for the resource-constrained IoT devices and the Web developer community. As a result, the SensorThings API follows the REST principles, the use of an efficient JSON encoding, and the use of the flexible OASIS OData protocol and URL conventions. We will also demonstrate several real-world applications of the OGC SensorThings API in emergency management and smart cities. In addition to introduce the specification, this talk will also demonstrate an end-to-end IoT application based on the open source libraries of the SensorUp SensorThings platform.

The LAMP (Linux/Apache HTTP Server/MySQL/PHP) stack has dominated web infrastructures, in the IoT it is believed a similar open source stack will dominate IoT deployments. This presentation will look at the new technology requirements and architectures required for IoT solutions.
