5. ITAC CANINE PROGRAMS
The International Tactical and Canine Training Centre (ITAC)
• The International Tactical and Canine Training Centre (ITAC) is an
organization conceived by the Punjab Home Guard in cooperation with NSD
Networks India to provide canine and personnel training in all disciplines
related to law enforcement and tactical military operations.
• To this end, combat and law enforcement experienced, highly qualified,
specialized trainers and instructors will conduct the full spectrum of canine
team training with both classroom and field instruction.
• ITAC operates under a strictly regimental structure to provide training within
the Punjab Home Guard and Civil Defense Training Facility located in Dera
Bassi, Punjab. Dera Bassi is ideally located, being 30 minutes from
Chandigarh by road and 30 minutes from Delhi by air.
6. Canine Program Duration
• Imprinting, obedience and detection training is completed in a five (5) week period,
with a minimum of a ten
• (10) dogs per class.
Canine Imprinting
• Imprinting of the dog is done on a variety of know narcotics from the illegal drug
trade. Heroin, cocaine, opium, ecstasy and cannabis are all covered and specific
drugs can be catered for to assist Agencies needs as required.
• Canines are also trained to avoid any distraction by diesel, petroleum or exhaust
fumes, explosions or gunfire as well as everyday noises associated with urban or rural
life
7. Canine Handler Training
• The handlers will be given specialized training in law enforcement or military
skills in order to be trained to work as a cohesive unit with their dog. The
handlers will join their selected dog after the dog has completed its 5 weeks
of imprinting, when the pair will begin to become a team. The Handlers will
train for a week concurrently with their dogs fifth weeks imprinting, to allow
