Luís Antero Reto – ISCTE-IULs' Rector
Luis Antero Reto holds a degree in Clinical Psychology, Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada de Lisboa, and
a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Louvain-la Neuve, Belgium. In 2001 he started his
aggregation to ISCTE-IUL in the Marketing field, institution where he became a teacher in 2001. He was Director
of ISPA (1983-1985) and President of INDEG / ISCTE (1998-2005) and the Technical Director of the Center for
Surveys (SIC 1997/2002). Luís Antero Reto is a founding partner of CSR Portugal - Association for Corporate
Social Responsibility and the President of the Center for the Study of Public and Social Economy (CEEPS /
CIRIEC). Author of eight books and several scientific papers.
José Paulo Esperança – ISCTE-IUL's Vice Rector for International Affaires
Head of AUDAX, the entrepreneurship center of ISCTE-IUL since its inception in 2005, which has trained many
aspiring entrepreneurs and contributed to the launching of over 100 new ventures. Audax has also organized an
entrepreneurship competition broadcasted on a national TV channel and has launched a new, technology based,
competition in association with MIT. He has written and consulted on services and emerging multinationals, small
firms’ governance and financing, executive compensation, real options and venture capital. His publications
include articles in Portuguese Review of Financial Markets, Journal of Multinational Financial Management,
Management Research, Portuguese Journal of Management Studies, Corporate Ownership, among others. He is
a member of the board of the CPADA, the Portuguese federation of environmental associations and has been actively involved in
promoting eco-friendly mobility infrastructures, including bike paths and the development of public transportation.

Gonçalo Amorim – MPP IEI Program Director, ISCTE-IUL
Gonçalo Amorim combines more than 12 years in project management coupled with the actual deployment
and successful delivery of venture capital projects, including company turn-arounds and the implementation
of several carbon mitigating strategies: all at an industrial level. These have enabled him an intricate
understanding of the complexities of operational management of several industries and high-tech sectors. He
started off in 1997 designing scientific equipments at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in
Oxfordshire, and later on joined HP Fibre Optics Divison (Ipswich, UK). He successfully filed several
international patents (US, Europe & Japan). In Portugal, Gonçalo held several managerial roles in some of
the most dynamic and successful Portuguese multinationals (Sonae & Semapa) listed in the Portuguese Stock exchange, PSI20.
Holds an MSc in Engineering Management from the University of Bristol and is a Chartered Engineer by the Institution of Mechanical
Engineers (UK).
José Estabil – MPP IEI Program Director, MIT
José Estabil has 20 years of experience in translating technology into dominant designs and high growth
businesses. Mr. Estabil was President of Tau-Metrix and launched an electron beam inspection business
(Cadence) in Japan. He introduced the film measurement dominant technology (KLA-Tencor) to and helped
pioneer Copper wires (IBM) for the semiconductor industry. Before joining Prof. Charles L. Cooney’s
Innovation group, he managed the Materials Science and Software Patent Portfolio for MIT’s Technology
Licensing Office and was an active volunteer at the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation. He is a
advisor to Arctic Sand, TT Ventures, and tau-Metrix, and a Catalyst for MIT Innovation Teams. Mr. Estabil
earned his Sc. B. and Sc. M. in Physics from Brown University. He holds eight U.S. patents, and has authored or co-authored over
twenty publications in the fields of semiconductor materials and semiconductor metrology.

Hugo Gamboa – CEO PLUX
Hugo Gamboa is a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical
University of Lisbon and is currently Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of the Sciences and
Technology Faculty of the New University of Lisbon. He is a founder and CEO of PLUX, a technology-based
innovative startup in the field of systems and wireless medical sensors, where he currently coordinates a
multidisciplinary team that covers microelectronics, biosignal processing and software development.
In 2007 he was awarded with a grant from the Luso-American Development Foundation which led him to
conduct research at the Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Lab, directed by the worldwide recognized
researcher Dr. Anil Jain, at Michigan State University (USA). In recognition of his work by the European Biometric Forum, he was
among the three finalists of the EBF European Biometric Research Award 2007, which awards PhD works on Biometrics.
Rui Lança – Coach and Trainer for Leadership, Team Coaching, Team Cognition and Facilitation
Rui Lança graduated in Sports Science and has a Master in Sports Management and an Executive Master in
Auditing and Management Control for Un. Católica do Porto and EGE. After he received both certificates in
Coaching (Individual, Organizations and Teams) and Leadership and Management Teams.
He has been collaborating with NGOs for six years in the European Council in projects relating to training,
facilitation and entrepreneurship. Rui Lança wrote three books published ab. Rui Lança wrote out dynamics

Shailendra Rai – Assistant Professor at Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon
Shailendra Kumar Rai is a (Ph.D), Banaras Hindu University and a General Fellow of Indian Council of Social
Science Research. Presently, he is an Assistant Professor of Finance and Accounting at Management
Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon. Dr. Rai has published over 40 research papers especially in the areas
of finance, financial institutions and entrepreneurship. Dr. Rai has extensive cross-national experience having
worked at the Banaras Hindu University, (India); George Mason University¸ U.S.A., Max Plank Institute of
Economics (Germany); Jonkoping International Business School (Sweden), among others. Dr. Rai has
offered consultancy and conducted training for various corporations such as Life Corporation of India, Bharat
Electrical Ltd., Jindal Steel Ltd., Canara Bank and the amongst others and government departments
(Department of Science & Technology¸ Indian Railways, Indian Armed Forces etc). Dr. Rai is a sought after speaker and has
addressed various Indian and global audiences in various countries.
Virgínia Trigo – Full Professor of Entrepreneurship at ISCTE-IUL
Professor Vírginia Trigo is a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and
Innovation of the University of California, Berkeley; a PhD in Management, ISCTE and an MSc in Strategy
and Entrepreneurial Development, University of Macau. Currently she is an associate Professor at the
Department of Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour, ISCTE; Director of Post Graduate
Programs in China and a visiting Professor at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China;
Southern Medical University; Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and ESC Clermont-Ferrand. Her
main fields of study study and research are: Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Organizational Behaviour,
China and Asian Markets.Professor Virginia Trigo wrote several academic papers, articles in the press and books including: entre os
quais: “Cultura Económica Chinesa – Como Negociar na China?” e “Entre o Estado e o Mercado – Empreendedorismo e a Condição
do Empresário na China”.

Vasco Trigo – Portuguese Radio Television Journalist (RTP2)
Vasco Trigo is a Journalist at the Portuguese Radio Television (RTP2). He made his carreer at RTP, the
largest national public television. He is a professor at the School of Social Communication at the Polytechnic
Institute of Lisbon and Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa. He made political journalism, presented the 24
hours, Telejornal, Jornal 2. He was distinguished in journalism dedicated to the Technology and Science field,
namely through coordination and presentation, over 12 years, of the Weekly Magazine "2010," the program
"Só Energia”. He received the Seeds of Science Award (Ciência Hoje) and the Award "Person of the Year in
the field of Information Society," by the Association for the Promotion and Development for the Information
Society, both in 2009.
Vanessa Fatal – Portuguese IP Office, INPI
Vanessa Fatal works as a Patent Examiner at the National Institute of Industrial Property since 2007 in the
area of Chemistry. She has a degree in Chemical Engineer, from the New University of Lisbon, Faculty of
Science and Technologies.
Prior to joining INPI, Vanessa Fatal made research work in the biotechnology field in Instituto Superior
Técnico, from 2005 until 2007.
Vanessa Fatal also holds a Graduate Specialization Course on Management Integrated Systems: Quality,
Security and Environment, obtained at SGS Portugal, SA.

Dina Chaves – Director ofConsultancy and Technology Intelligence Director at Clarke, Modet & Co.
Portugal.
Dina Chaves was a Technology Transfer Advisor at the Science & Technology School from the New University
of Lisbon (UNL), and Board Advisor of the Portuguese Industrial Property Office. She has a MSc Degree at
Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra and she’s an Invited Teacher in several Intellectual
Property and Technology Transfer Programs at UNL and ISEG-UTL. She is author of several papers about IP
and the valorization of R&D results within the academic context. She participates in several conferences,
workshops and advanced courses and a member of international networks addressing the issues of
technology transfer and IPR.
João Faria Gomes – Teacher and Master Co-ordinator at ISCTE-IUL
João Faria Gomes is an MA in Business Administration from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He
started his carreer at Unilever Portuguesa as Brand Manager and later in 2000 he joined Wolff Olins as a
Consultant. Since 2004 he is a teacher and Co-ordinator of the Master Program at ISCTE-IUL where he
teatches Brand Management and Innovation & Creativity. He maintains his consultancy activity at Kayak,
since 2005.

Tobias Brambrink – Wolf Greenfield
Tobias Brambrink is a Technology Specialist at Wolf Greenfield, a Boston (USA) law firm specializing in
intellectual property. After obtaining a graduate degree in Biology from the University of Wuerzburg,
Germany, went to the US in 2002 to conduct his a postdoctoral work in Rudolf Jaenisch's laboratory at the
Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, MA, USA. During his time at Whitehead, Tobias
Brambrink authored and co-authored several publications in leading scientific journals including Nature,
Science, Cell, Cell Stem Cell, and PNAS. Later on 2008 joins Wolf Greenfield in 2008 mainly assisting the
firm's Biotech and Pharma groups in patent prosecution, due diligence, and opinion matters, including
prosecution of patent applications, portfolio evaluation and development for startup companies.
Walter Palma – Caixa Capital
Walter Palma is a Director at Caixa Capital, the venture capital and private equity arm of Caixa Geral de
Depósitos, Portugal’s largest financial group. Walter has over twenty years of professional experience, both
in Portugal and internationally. Walter began his career with KMPG Canada, having transferred to the
Portuguese office in 1991, where he specialized in the financial services sector and Corporate Finance. He
later moved to Banco Finantia, a small Portuguese investment bank, where he exercised roles as Head of
Research and as a Director in the Corporate Finance department. In 2001, Walter moved to the CGD Group
to help found a corporate venturing operation specialised in investing in and developing internet and technology start-ups. Walter
has an MBA in International Management from Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Walter is currently responsible for managing
Caixa Capital’s entrepreneurship and innovation VC fund, FCR Empreender+.

Miguel Cerqueira Gomes – Cerqueira Gomes & Associados
Licenciated at Faculty of Law of Coimbra University (1980), with additional qualifications from the Portuguese
Catholic University (Management and Economic-Financial Analysis of Businesses and European Community
Law), he has been continuously practicing law since 1983, with particular focus on negotiation and litigation in
practically all branches of law, and an active intervention in thousands of lawsuits in the law courts and
hundreds of processes in courts of arbitration, as both a lawyer and arbitrator. Miguel Cerqueira Gomes has
been General Adviser to the Portuguese Bar Association and he is member of the examination board for
membership to the Portuguese Bar Association and of various international law organizations. He has been
guest speaker at a number of international seminars, congresses and conferences, and he is author of a number of publications on
legal subjects, in Portugal and abroad.
Gabriela Pinheiro – Cerqueira Gomes & Associados
Licentiated at Portuguese Catholic University Porto (1991), she has been continuously practising law since
1992 in practically all branches of law. She is trainer of the Portuguese Bar Association and professor of Tax
Law at ISCAP (Porto Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration). After completing a Master’s degree
in Law-Faculty of Law of Coimbra University (1997), she has been professor of many Postgraduate courses,
such as Postgraduate Course in Taxation-Moderna University, Porto (2001-2002), Program for Advanced
Corporate Tax Instruction-Portuguese Catholic University Porto (1998-1999), Postgraduate course in
Corporate Labour and Tax Consultancy-Fernando Pessoa University (1997-2000). She is author of [Direct
Taxation in the European Union], Universidade Católica Portuguesa: Porto, 1998.

Nicolau Santos – Director, Expresso
Nicolau Santos holds a degree in Economics from the University of Lisbon. He started his professional activity
at Jornal de Notícias. Later, in 1984 goes to Jornal Expresso. He was chief of the Section of Economics of the
news agency ANOP (1984 - 1986), participated in the economic program TV "Contas Claras" (RTP2) and
Telejornal (RTP1) in 1985 and 1986, respectively. In 1987 Co-founds the "Semanário Económico" assuming
its direction between October 1989 and April 30, 1992. Was responsible for the television program "Acerto de
Contas" and analyst on economic issues of the Jornal das Nove (RTP2) between January and April 1992. He
was awarded several times, namely in 2006, when he received from the President of the Portugal, Jorge
Sampaio - Ordem of Infante D. Henrique.
Carlos Alves – HFA, Globaltronic
Carlos Alves holds a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of
Aveiro, with a specialization in Quality Engineering. He began his professional path in 1986 in Águeda, and
now divides his time among several companies in which he is a Chief Officer the areas of electronics and
telecommunications. He founded and is currently a member of several associations related to the promotion
of Quality of Life and Well-Being, associated environmental, health and sustainability.

João Neto – Diligence Capital
João Neto holds a BSc in Electro-technical, Electronics and IT Engineering (FEUP - Oporto University) and
an MSc in Industrial Informatics (FEUP). He started an IT research career while attending University at
INESC, where he developed IT expertise in several technical domains as well as project management
experience. In 1997 he founded and was the CEO and shareholder of Novabase Porto and Novabase Saúde,
both of which subsidiaries, were considered the largest Portuguese IT Services companies. Later in 2006, he
founded Diligence Capital - a privately held Venture Capital firm based in Portugal focusing in early stage IT,
where he is a shareholder and Managing Partner. He is also a Chairman and President of NDrive Navigation
Systems. He his a beaord member in several companies, including BioDevices, Nmusic, QuiiQ and
Autonomia.
José Jesus – Dueto SGPS
José Jesus holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (IST – Technical University of Lisbon) and a MSc in
Electrical Engineering and Computers) from the same University. He stayed there as an Assistant Professor,
while working at INESC as a researcher, until 1991, the year in which founded, was President and CEO
of Octal, Engenharia de Sistemas, SA. Later co-founded and became President of OctalTV. In 2000 he
merged both companies with Novabase, going public in the Portuguese stock market. He left the board
of Novabase sgps in 2008 to join the board of Efacec Sistemas de Electrónica, SA. José Jesus co-founded
DUETO sgps, a venture capital company tailored to invest in technological startups. Dueto has a "hands-on"
approach on investments, having presently a dozen investments in the portfolio.

José Basílio Simões – ISA-Intelligent Sensing Anywhere, S.A
José Basílio Simões, is co-founder, President and CEO of the high-tech company ISA. He has grown the
company from zero to 100 people and €5 million turnover attracting major international customer accounts
such as BP, Shell, Repsol and Primagaz. Since 2006 ISA's green tech solutions saved 63,200 tons of CO2
emissions for Oil & Gas companies. In 2009 ISA launches iMeter, an Energy Saving kit that will help to meet
the Copenhagen climate change targets, saving 1.6 million tons of CO2 until 2015. He is also Professor at the
Science and Technology Faculty of the University of Coimbra. He holds a PhD in Technological Physics and
over 20 years experience in the areas of electronics, telemetry and remote management, real-time embedded
systems, digital signal processing and instrumentation applied to energy, utilities, environment and healthcare domains. He is author
or co-author of several dozens of scientific publications in international refereed journals, managed several European projects and
developed and patented several innovative remote management systems
Paulo Trezentos – Caixa Mágica, Technical director of the portuguese Linux distribution.
Paulo Trezentos has an MSc in Informatics Engineering from ISCTE-IUL. He is a Teacher assistant at
ISCTE-IUL, lecturing Operational Systems and Computing Architecture. He is also a researcher at ADETTI,
ISCTEs'-IUL research centre. His main scientific interests are: operating systems, high performance
computing / grids and Open Source development. He his involved in several projects namely: HICOD2000 -
European Space Agency (ESA) project in the fields of security and Grids; Arco - Grid project with Biblioteca
Nacional for digital library storage; EDOS - Leader of the CM team in EDOS, one of the largest IST funded
european projects in the area of the R&D of Linux tools & open source software. He is a Co-Founder of an IT
& Software ISCTE-IUL spin-out Caixa Mágica where he his a Chief Technology Officer.

Alberto Cunha – Taguspark
Alberto Cunha has an Msc and a PhD in Electrotechnic Engineering and Computer Science from IST (Lisbon
University). He has accomplished several positions in the Academia namely at the Informatic Engineering
Department as a Professor and as a Member of the scientific commission of the same Master degree.
Simultaneously, has performed in the consulting and IT area as an Board member of several comanies in the
past ten years, including Link consulting, Knowledge People, Bithium, Tecmic, Siscog-Link-Tecmic, ACE. Was
a Promoter of the YouMove company. In 2010, joins Taguspark, one of the leading incubators in Lisbon as a
member of the executive committee.
Catarina Machado Madeira – MPP IEI Operations Coordinator, ISCTE-IUL
With a scientific background, Chemistry and Pharma, Catarina has performed mainly in industrial
environment – Personal Care business, holding a Master degree in Industrial Cosmetology, from the
University of Lyon. She started at Saboaria e Perfumaria Confiança (Braga, Portugal) in 2003 and later joined
L’Oréal (Paris, France), having accomplished in product development, regulatory affaires and scientific
communication. Returning to Portugal in 2009 she joined AUDAX, the Entrepreneurship Center of ISCTE –
Lisbon Universitary Institute, being MIT Portugal – IEIs’ Operations Coordinator.
