2. IQPC: Can you give us some more information on
Ramboll, your background and your current
project(s)? Matti Scheu: Ramboll, as a leading
engineering and management consulting company
with more than 12 000 employees worldwide, is
working together with our clients on a variety of
projects in the area of asset management in all
phases of an asset life cycle. Combining the in-house
technical expertise in the field of wind energy (our
division totals more than 150 full time staff) with the
right methods and skills needed for a sustainable
implementation of asset management into the
client’s organization (supported with specialists from
our Energy, Oil and Gas and Management Consulting
Divisions), we are capable of delivering solutions
from high level strategic and organizational topics,
as facilitating O&M strategy development, the
implementation of an Asset Management System
according to ISO55001, to hands on tasks as on-site
corrosion protection inspections of an offshore wind
substructure. Our current projects are reflecting this
variety – we are working together with all main
actors in the offshore wind market and draw upon
our large pool of management consultants and
dedicated specialists,
depending on the needs identified in an on-going or
planned project. We see our opportunity of staffing
projects with real subject matter experts and asset
management specialists as a great benefit to the
solutions we work out together with our clients.
IQPC: Which are the main aspects of a beneficial
wind farm asset management in simple terms?
And where do you see main challenges?
MS: Asset Management is most beneficial for any
asset based business when the organization is able
to balance the inherent technologic with strategic
and management aspects. Looking at the main
challenges we must first distinguish between on-
and offshore wind energy. Both sectors are facing
different challenges for improvement of asset
management, respectively operational assurance.
Onshore wind energy is a rather mature industry in
which professional asset owners and managers
continuously optimize their cost and availability data
driven. Offshore wind energy is still an infant industry.
Currently we see many clients facing the challenging
transformation from project developing to an
operating organization, in which an efficiency focused
