4. Property Management Introduction
• Government Agencies require accurate and
current land parcel (folio) records
• Need to maintain the ownership and value of
properties
• And must accurately map the location and
extent of landholdings
5. Key Requirements for a
Property GIS
• Accurate boundary capture and edit tools
• Advanced Geometry validation tools e.g. to
prevent parcels overlapping
• Integration with Financial Register and
Document Management System
• Printing to Land Registry Standards
6. Web GIS Property Management
• Historically desktop GIS were used to managed
property data due to complex nature of property /
cadastre workflows
• But today web GIS tools can provide advanced
GeoSpatial workflows through the web and mobile
clients through products like GeoMedia Smart Client
as used by Shannon Airport Authority (formerly
Shannon Development)
7. Web GIS Challenges
• Accurate capture through a browser
• Ability to capture data at low scales
• Performance of large amounts cadastre data over
the web
8. Shannon Airport Authority
• Shannon Development (now part of Shannon Airport Authority)
required a modern property management solution to manage
the property of the Shannon Free Zone
• Solution wanted to move away from their legacy desktop GIS to
a modern enterprise solution with a SQL Server 2008 database
• Shannon selected IMGS and GeoMedia Smart Client to provide
the Property Management GIS
10. What is GeoMedia Smart Client
• Advanced web editing and workflow optimization
• Create customer-specific workflows in an easy way across the
enterprise and into the field
• Efficient, map-based tools for editing geometry and attributes,
querying, viewing and printing
11. GeoMedia Smart Client
Key Features
• Feature rich mapping – Java Client
• Multi parameter attribute searches
• Advanced analysis tools (select, query etc)
• Data capture, dimensioning and redlining
• Advanced plotting
• Supports large data quantities through caching
• Active Directory and LDAP security
– Functionality rights
– Geographic rights
12. CAD functions
• Easy-to-use (…”only” one optimized possibility)
• Snapping (start-/end- point, vertex, mid point, orthogonal, intersection)
• Auxiliary constructions (point, distance, polyline, extend-to, arc)
• Object relations (parallel to, show relations, use existing geometry)
• Capture and editing dialogs (e.g. input of x/y/z, distance lock, angle lock, …)
• General functions (e.g. rotate, move, union, split…)

Organizations need GeoMedia® Smart Client because it enables them to implement geospatial business workflows that are not supported by out-of-the-box products, in an easy and sustainable way across the enterprise also for non-GIS experts.
Organizations need GeoMedia® Smart Client because it enables them to implement geospatial business workflows that are not supported by out-of-the-box products, in an easy and sustainable way across the enterprise also for non-GIS experts.
Smart Client offers high performance caching for very fast display/navigation of spatial data. This is accomplished via the geospatial data being cached in one of 3 locations:
On your application server. Useful if your security policies prevent local machine caching.
On a Local Area Network (LAN) server. Useful if your security policies prevent local machine caching.
On each client computer/laptop. This is optimal relative to performance.
Both vector and raster data may be cached for high speed display/navigation. When a client requests a new map via queries, a timestamp is checked on the local cache and compared to cached data on the server. If the timestamp has changed, indicating the server copy is newer, the local cache is automatically refreshed. Thus, Smart Client provides high speed performance and up to date data.
