The document summarizes the gender strategy and capacity development activities of the CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish. 3. Output 1: Increased gender capacity within CG, partner
organizations, and value chain actors to diagnose and
overcome gender based constraints within value chains
Rationale for Output 1:
• Change won’t be achieved by individuals / organizations in
isolation - thus need for gender capacity building targeted at all of
CG, partner organizations and VC actors
• Need to influence and inspire partners to integrate gender not
mandate

4. Activities to support Output 1 - 2013
• Identify partners who are interested in using gendered
tools and approaches to overcome gender based
constraints in target value chains.
• Research and identify appropriate tools and approaches
for gender and value chain capacity development.
Provide training in tool application to partners.

Training manual developed and released: “Closing the Gender Gap in
Agriculture: A Trainer’s Manual”
•
Capacity development in Ethiopia, Uganda, Philippines, Thailand, Kenya
and Mozambique (and within ILRI i.e. support of ILRI staff to genderdize
KAP survey and data analysis for Tanzania)
•
ILRI - gender staff hired for Tanzania, Uganda and Nicaragua
•
Other? Backstopping of students in Tanzania (e.g. gender-sensitive semistructured interviews; gender and food access in Tanzania)
