IFMA’s CFM certification process is designed to assess competency in the field through work experience, education and the ability to pass a comprehensive exam. Since the program began in 1992, more than 3,300 facility managers from 25 countries have achieved this prestigious recognition. Once achieved CFM’s are required to recertify every three years. The recertification process keeps CFM’s on top of their game by offering points towards recertification for attending conferences, volunteering in FM Research, participating in their local chapter and many other activities that promote and grow the profession. The CFM Competency Framework was developed based on the three core responsibilities of a facility manager. These are Advancing the Business, Leading the Organization and of course Managing the Facility.
