"Angel In The Dark"...Angel In The Dark was originally designed to raise awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) within Law Enforcement and the communities we serve. PTSD is called the "silent killer", a disorder that develops in some people who have seen or lived through a shocking, scary or dangerous event. The most serious and most often untreated disorder, which can't always be prevented affects 3.5% of the general population. Anyone who has survived a flood, fire, death of a loved one, sexual assault, poverty, incarcerated parent(s) and over 21% of foster care alumni suffers from this silent killer. Our society is "at-risk" and the scope of the problem is enormous. "At-risk" must be reviewed as a series of steps along a continuum and can be anticipated in the absence of intervention. We must promote the idea of seeking help and helping one another, a huge step towards becoming an improved and healthier society. Reach out and be someone's "Angel In The Dark" today...a kind word, a gentle smile can either determine or change the way someone who are at-risk views the world...let's change the world, one at-risk individual at a time!!!
