
Based in Otopeni; its headquarters and its primary hub is at
Henri Coandă International Airport.

Currently the biggest airline operating in Romania based on fleet
size, international destinations, and international flights; second
biggest measured by carried passengers, behind only Wizz Air.

Its name is a Romanian acronym for Transporturile Aeriene
ROMâne (Romanian Air Transport).

The Government of Romania (Ministry of Transport) owns 95%
of TAROM.

Transported nearly 2.2 million passengers in 2012, with a normal
load factor of 66%.

Member of SkyTeam; joined on 25 June 2010.

TAROM’s logo, representing a swallow flying, has been used on
all TAROM aircraft since its founding in 1954.

The logo on the trail was painted in red, with a red cheatline, in
the 1970s livery.

The livery introduced early in the 1990s (on the Airbus A310
aircraft) is a “Eurowhite” scheme where the titles and the tailfin
are painted in dark blue.

The current color scheme (introduced on the A318 in 2006) is a
slightly changed version of the previous color scheme, with a
massive logo on the tailfin; the engine pods likewise are painted
in dark blue.

All aircraft in TAROM’s fleet are given a “name” that is a
Romanian toponym; for example, the names of the ATR aircraft
in the fleet are related to Romania’s rivers; the Boeing aircraft
bear names of Romania’s cities; the Airbus long-haul aircraft bear
Romanian historical territory names; the new Airbus A318 bears
names of Romanian aviation pioneers.

To mark its 55th anniversary in 2009, a Boeing 737-700 (YR-BGG
“Craiova”) was painted in a retro jet color scheme, which
represented the airline’s first livery used in the 1950s on Lisunov
Li-2 airplanes.

The airline operates 52 destinations (includes charters) in 22
countries (Europe, Middle East, and northern Africa), which
includes 10 domestic destinations.

TAROM was initially scheduled to join SkyTeam as an associate
member (sponsored by Alitalia) in 2006, but the entry into the
alliance was delayed until 2008.

SkyTeam signed a SkyTeam Alliance Associate Adherence
Agreement (SAAAA) agreement with TAROM, which indicated
that the airline was on the track to join the alliance as an
associate member (sponsored by Air France).

SkyTeam renewed its membership program on 22 June 2010, thus
making TAROM a future full member of that alliance.

TAROM became a full member of SkyTeam on 25 June 2010.
