This is a project that i did for my EDU 290 class. I was to create a power point project that was curriculum based. I chose to do the different Full Moons and how they got their names.
2. The Full Moon
Many cultures
throughout the world
have given names
to the Full Moon.
Each month was
named for the Moon
that would appear
during it. The
Chinese, Native
American, and Celtic
cultures all had
names for the Photo: http://www.zazzle.com/a_trip_to_the_moon_poster-

3. January: The Wolf Moon
The Wolf Moon was named for the
month of January because Wolves could
be heard howling at the moon in the icy
air.
4. February: the Snow Moon
This Moon was
named for the
weather conditions
that tribal
communities dealt
with during this time
of year. Lots of snow
fall made hunting for
game hard and
staying alive
tougher.
5. March: The Worm Moon
This Moon was
named because
when spring came in
March the snow
would melt and the
ground saturation
would bring the
worms to the
surface. It was a
sign of spring!
6. April: The Pink
Moon
This Moon was
named because
Spring is in full swing
during this month and
flowers begin to
appear.
7. May: The Flower Moon
Flowers come into full bloom during this
month giving this Moon its obvious
name!
8. June: The Strawberry Moon
This is one of the few moons with a universal name
among tribes because Strawberries are ready to
harvested at this time.
9. July: The Buck Moon
This is the month that Deer Bucks begin
to grow their antlers.
12. October: The Hunters Moon
The fields are harvested by this time and
game becomes fattened for their Winter
survival. They are more easily spotted
by hunters on the bare ground.
13. November: The Beaver
Moon
The Beaver Moon was named because
during this month Beavers are working
hard to prepare for winter.
Building up there homes and
Fattening up for the winter
Months.
14. December: The Cold Moon
The Cold Moon was named because
temperatures begin to plummet at this
time.
15. The Blue Moon
The Lunar cycle
usually involves 3
Full Moons per
season.
Occasionally there
is a 4th full moon in a
season because the
Lunar cycle is a 29
day cycle.
16. The 13 Moons
The previous slides have shown you the
names and meanings behind the 13 Full
Moons. Take out a piece of paper and
write a short summary of what you
learned today. It can be something
interesting you found out or something
that affirmed something you already
know! Good Luck!
