Thrives best in warm regions with fertile soils.
Very common in Portland, though.
3. What is important about Heritage Tree #35?
It’s massive canopy (75 feet) provides immense shelter
during poor weather periods, ex.) in the fall.
Conveniently placed bus stop bench beneath the canopy
Provides shade during hot temperatures.
The bark of this Black Walnut, if ever cut down, is very
valuable and can be used to make furniture, flooring,
etcetera.
Helps protect the soil
Makes the area look nice—in the fall the leaves turn
bright yellow.
Edible nuts.
Important food source for wildlife (and humans!)
