• Long history showing connection between
‘traditional’ technology and positive outcomes
for early learners.
• Much less known about interactive
technologies.
• Our framework focuses on
– Usability
– Appropriate content and
– Attention to how young children best learn.
3. Two Studies w/ Preschoolers
• Focus on language/literacy & math.
• Similar amount of instructional time
(about 6 months).
• Pre- and post-testing with
standardized assessments.
• One with IWB and one with
touchscreen computer.
• IWB activities more teacher-guided.
Touchscreen activities more
computer-assisted.
4. IWB
• 8 school district pre-k classrooms.
• 1 hour per week.
