2. Lighthouse at Alexandria
• The Lighthouse was built between 280 and
247 BC on the island of Pharos in
Alexandria, Egypt.
• It was 120-140 metres tall and had a range of
47 km and was used to guide ships into
Alexandria port.
• It was built by Ptolemy I.
3. Colossus of Rhodes.
• It was built between 292 and 280 BC and was
destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC.
• It was a statue of the Greek Titan, Helios.
• It was 30 metres in height
• It was built by Chares of Lindos.
4. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
• It was a large tomb built for Mausolus, who
was a Satrap in the Persian Empire, between
353 and 350 BC
• It was 45 metres tall
5. Statue of Zeus at Olympia
• The Statue of Zeus was made by Phidias in 432
BC and was destroyed in 425 BC.
• The statue is of Zeus, who is the god of the Sky
and Thunder.
• In his right hand he holds Nike, the god of
victory and in his left, he holds a sceptre of
gold on which an eagle is perched.
6. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
• The temple is dedicated to Artemis, who is the
goddess of the Hunt, Wild Animals, Childbirth
and Virginity.
• It was rebuilt three times until it was
eventually destroyed in 401.
7. Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
• The Hanging Gardens are the only wonder
that may have been pure legend because no
one has found them, their ruins or even any
sign of them. Neither was there any records.
• These pictures may have the same idea but no
one knows for sure what they look like.
8. The Great Pyramid at Giza
• Egyptologists believe that the pyramids were
made as a tomb for the Pharaoh, Khufu who
also built them.
• The Pyramid was initially 146.5 metres tall but
was reduced to 138.8 metres a couple of years
later.
• Some people theorise that the egyptians did
not build them because of the sheer size and
accuracy of it.
