• National Health IT Board’s position is that patient access is provided
by GPs (with PHO support)
• International research supports this position:
• patients expect to have access to their health information
provided by the person they get the majority of their care from

Providing New Zealanders with access to their health

• Proven IT system options – Medtech MMH, Orion, Intrahealth and
MyPractice, HAS Global
• Must enable Emergency Department to access
• Currently over 4000 patients are enrolled
• Requires a team approach as it changes the model of care
• Saves time for a busy clinician overall
• Examples – Midland Health Network, Island Bay Medical Centre and
Wairarapa GPs.
• We are working with consumers, PHOs and Primary care
clinicians to create a breakthrough in 2014 – watch this
