3. The road to sustainability

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
2008 The first RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil arrives on the market
2012 Sustainable palm oil production reaches a record 6 million tonnes
– 11% of global crude palm oil production
2015 87 companies have so far pledged to source all of their palm oil
consumption sustainably from this year on
4. RSPO certified supply chains
Segregated (SG)
Segregated supply chains keep sustainable and conventional palm oil based
materials separate at all times. An ”SG” designation or “Certified” label on a
product guarantees that all the palm oil used is from an RSPO certified
plantation.
Mass Balance (MB)
Mass balance supply chains mix sustainable and conventional palm oil based
materials. An ”MB” designation or “Mixed” label on a product guarantees that
an equivalent amount of palm oil from an RSPO-certified plantation has been
consumed by the manufacturer.
5. Supply chain certification
Food manufacturers and ingredient suppliers must be certified and audited by
an RSPO approved supply chain certification body in order to sell products
with RSPO backed claims for “Segregated”, “Mass Balance”, “Certified” or
“Mixed”.
DuPont has been RSPO certified since 2009.
6. Sustainable palm-based emulsifiers
DuPont supplies a wide range of emulsifiers
based on segregated and mass balance
sustainable palm oil
Our goal is to complete the conversion of our
palm oil consumption to sustainable sources
in 2015
In addition, we supply palm-free alternatives
to all our palm-based emulsifiers
7. Prepared for 2015
In 2012 the market for sustainable palm oil remains small
DuPont has started work to secure sufficient sustainable raw materials to
meet food industry demand in 2015
Supplier collaboration is securing the availability of palm oil derivatives
from sustainable sources
Our growing production of sustainable emulsifiers is an important step
towards our customers’ and our own sustainability goals
