When people mention startup hubs, San Francisco, Boston, and now even New York come up right away. But after returning from the West coast in mid 2011, Eli Aleyner and Mani Fazeli saw huge potential in Toronto’s booming startup community. Amazing talent, great universities and new startup accelerators have them believing that Toronto can be part of this short list. That’s why they are Managing Directors of FounderDating for Toronto – working to solve what they believe is one of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs today – connecting with the right people to get started.

As libraries are increasingly asked to do more with less, we all have more things to do and less time to do them. Sometimes, the tools we have to help -like email and smartphones - actually make things worse! The trick is connecting technology and techniques that can best help us to manage our time and productivity effectively. In this presentation, Anali will lead an intrepid party on the eternal quest of improving personal productivity. Together, we’ll fight the email dragon, vanquish the time stealing goblins, and explore an arsenal of tools that help us get things done. By sharing ideas and best practices, we can each make connections to the techniques and tools will help us succeed on our quest!

Originally presented 26 July 2015 at ALIA New Librarian Symposium 7 (http://nls7.org) in Sydney, Australia. This is an introductory overview on how library websites may optimise user experience. The foundations of user experience are explored, with an emphasis on the importance of personas. With four sample personas of a child, a university student, an older adult, and a mobile user, best practices for providing optimal user experiences for these typical users are detailed. Further reading and a bibliography are provided at the end of the presentation. Please feel free to leave a comment or tweet me with feedback or questions.
