The BBC has opened its huge catalogue of TV and radio programmes to the
public, allowing anyone to browse the 948,909 entries in 503,193 subject
categories that date back seventy-five years.
The web site at http://open.bbc.co.uk/catalogue/infax/ was previously only
available internally within the BBC, but is now part of the Corporation’s move to
open its archives to external use. The web site catalogues the content of each
programme and its contributors, but does not provide access to the audio or
video content.
The catalogue’s homepage provides an example using the subject 'pirate
radio', which it shows has been covered by many BBC programmes, including
'Arena', 'The Lenny Henry Show', 'Wogan', 'Nationwide', 'Steve Wright In The
Afternoon' and 'Today'.
