Wave power is the transport of energy by ocean
waves, and the capture of that energy to do useful
work — for example; electricity generation, water
filtering, or the pumping of water into reservoirs.
•The Buoyant Moored Device
works by rotating about a long linkage.

•The Hinged Contour Device moves with the
waves, the motion is resisted at the joints.

•The Oscillating Water Column, water
works as a piston to pump air and drive a
turbine to generate power.

• The Pelamis Machine floats on the surface of the
water. The rolling motion of the waves generates
electricity.

•The Energy buoys are anchored to the ocean floor and
generating electricity by the bobbing up and down.
The world's fossil fuels are dwindling whilst
the amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere is
increasing. What we need is an energy
source that doesn't pollute, doesn't
increase CO2 levels and is renewable.
That's why we have wave power
Advantages Disadvantages
•It is free and will not run out so the cost is •Waves can be big or small so you may
in the building of the power station. not always be able to generate
                                                electricity.
•Wave power does not produce .
greenhouse gases. •You need to find a way of transporting the
electricity from the sea onto the land.
•Not expensive to operate and maintain.
•Not many people have tried wave power
•It is safe for people and for the yet, so the equipment is expensive.
environment
•Can produce a great deal of energy. Some devices can produce lots of noise
and take up alot of space
•The energy is free - no fuel needed, no
waste produced. The devices need to be strong and
                                             weather resistant.
There are some environmental aspects to consider
   when using wave power...
•The installation of the equipment can destroy habitats and coral of
sea life.

• It can kill water plants vital for the food chain and
ecosystem.
•The placement of the machine is important because it can
prevent the fishing boats from going out to sea, so some
species of fish could grow to very large numbers

•The machines create an obstacle for wading birds

But... the devices can become almost like artificial reefs, creating a
place for new colonisation and most wave power plants are spread out
along the coastline, preventing erosion to cliffs. Etc.
Wave power is fairly new and will be used alot in the future
and will help towards lowering CO2 emissions. Wave power
has alot of potential to do more, the interest in wave power
will rise and it will stimulate development and growth in the
technology and methods, then people will realize that wave
power has alot to offer and it has alot of competition, such as
wind, solar. Ect.
