Anyone with basic first aid knowledge knows you don't give chest compression's to any respiratory emergency patient. Simple logic

Thanks for the info, have seen this before. A little add on from different districts attached. I
thinks it's Denmark starts teaching first aid in grade two and the teaching continues through
high school.
Dr. Gabor Mate started an overdose training in Vancouver early 2000's of which I was part of.
The RCMP tried to stop the program, Dr. Mate taught the RCMP some wisdom "Not only will
these people save OD's but anyone else that suffers any respiratory emergency" program was
allowed to continue.
Final attachment got this email this morning OPA 10:20 am inquiring if I received my certificate
of completion OPA's Take Home Naloxone. Replied Yes I did and voiced my concerns. Looks
like my response may have reached everyone. Too much fun "suffering fools gladly" Have
talked with Tim Nickelbaugh and Johar of ext. 2212 many times over the last few months.
Have a greatweekend

Thanks for the interesting conversation running into a lot of closed mouthed people in Ontario.

I put in a complaint College Physicians Surgeons Ontario Aug 11.

CPSO wrote a letter Aug. 31 "After review we have no control over a Doctors Power Point"
6. Attached photo Dr. Klaiman's office 69 Queen St East Aug 24 She is an opioid replacement
therapy specialist. Note as in original protocol, chest compression's only. Talked with her staff
they know that the protocol is wrong, killing any breathing emergency patient, but say nothing.
Best Wishes

Thanksfor youremail andcall. I wasn’taware of thiscontroversy. People withawitnessedopioid
overdose descendintorespiratoryfailureandthenprogress,if itisnotreversedorissustained,into
cardiac arrest. CPRwithcompressionsisrecommendedforthe cardiacarrest butif theyare in
respiratoryfailure,evenwithaweakpulse,one shouldoxygenate andreverse the ODwithnaloxone.
That is the standardof care inmostjurisdictions. PerhapswhattheymissedinOntarioisthatmostof
these OD’sare witnessed, orfoundsoonafter, andare not yetcardiac arrests.
You are rightinidentifyingthe wrongresponseto mostpeople inanopioidODstate, andthe harms
causedby unnecessaryCPR. Naloxone isthe evidencebasedintervention. Anyunnecessarydelaytoits
administrationworsensthe prognosis.
Hopefullythe message will getthrough. Someonehasbeenill-advised.

Dr. Butt:
I got your email from this power point 'Opioid Agonist Therapy Conference' As you know
Naloxone is being rescheduled. Ontario College of Pharmacist and Ontario Pharmacist
Association has sent out training literature. Unfortunately they stress chest compression's
only and are very misleading about the need for respiratory assist.
Naloxone program in Ontario started Aug 31, 2011. Ten's of thousands of lay responders have
been taught all the signs of acute respiratory failure. Then trained to give chest compression's
only, majority of harm is happening to non overdoses.

8. This programs teaching increases drug use and abuse, loss of trust in the medical profession,
addictions counsellors and front line harm reduction workers. Clinicians are making themselves
sick as our hospitals are dealing with an increase of morbidity and mortality to many respiratory
emergency patients and say nothing.
234 Doctors, other health care professionals and myself signed a letter to Ontario's Premier
Wynne and Minister of Health Dr. Eric Hoskins about this life threatening intervention. I was
published in the 2015 AHA & ILCOR guidelines about this practice, found this link.

Please share this info widely, stop needless suffering. Save your own lives.
