Want to learn how to be a successful Disc Jockey, battling the beats out for a hip crowd or pumped up audience? Here are three very important lessons to internalize to help you perfect your craft
1. 3 Tips on Being a DJ
Gary Groenke Laying it Down!
2. 1 - Specialize:
This is the most important part of the profession
(and yes, it is a profession for those of you who
disagree). To be a DJ you must choose the right
music, the right beat, and specialize in the type of
venues that you play in. Be known in your field,
they say.
I personally specialize in wedding music, and that
has worked out for me and gained me a reputation.
3. 2 – Read the Crowd:
When you are a DJ, you have two clients: the
people who pay you and the crowd. The crowd
is just as important because they are your
guarantee for future gigs.
Make sure that you have plenty of tracks and
styles ready to keep the audience’s mood
upbeat (or whatever mood you are going for).
4. 3 – Practice!
Practice makes perfect. This means that you
should always be playing tracks and beats at any
event you are at even if you are not getting paid!
Volunteer as well at smaller venues and try and
test out new ideas. There is less risk and you get
to do a good did – win-win all around!
