2. The new Morven Museum and Garden Interpretive
Center was conceived as part of the institution’s
master plan update and will enhance the Museum’s
use of their overall site. Not only will the new plan
improve wayfinding and the public experience, but the
site’s historic Mansion is preserved as the site’s most
important element. The new center bears a secondary
relationship to the Mansion, while establishing its own
unique presence on the site. Massing is broken into
connecting parts with varying heights to relate to the
existing outbuildings and a maximum building height
is maintained to minimize impact of the new building.
The new facility will have a welcoming character,
elegantly incorporating modern materials, and will
reinforce the strong relationship to the surrounding
gardens.
