THE FUTURE OF AID:
A Look into the Crystal Ball

The world is rapidly changing. On an individual basis, the rich are getting richer and the
poorer are getting poorer! Yes, the Bill Gates, Soros and others are getting even richer.
What’s better, they are giving out some of their money to people with innovative ideas.
However, the country level is a different story. Who would have thought that Nicholas
Sakozy would be in China seeking financial assistance from it for Europe? Are we
witnessing the end of an era? Traditional donors are cutting back on the funding due to
the Eurozone crisis. Will your donors still be there tomorrow or will you be left high and
dry? Its time to look at the crystal ball and prepare yourself for the future. There isn’t a
better way to do it than over coffee!

THE RISEFor The Bounty COUNTY:
                     OF THE
Positioning Yourself

Kenya is changing. There is a new constitutional order --- things are being turned on their
heads, nothing seems to be the same! Yet the era of 47 counties is here. 47 counties with
47 Governments and Ksh 3 billion to spend on development matters. What are the
opportunities for development organisations? How can you position yourself strategically
within the counties? How can you market yourself to County Governments and donors?
If you want to explore the counties and the opportunities that they offer, this coffee talk is
for you!

TRAGEDY OR OPPORTUNITY:
Transforming Our Development Approach For the Poor

Development organisations thrive on selling poverty and misery as the basis for their
programs. They literally strip their target group naked to raise the additional buck! Yet
corporate entities follow a different approach. Rather than see people without shoes and
decide there is no market, they see the situation as providing a large untapped market. The
result is while we literally beg for money to help the poor, these organisations give “the
poor” affordable products while laughing all the way to the bank! Is there something we are
missing? Some have now set up foundations that are helping thousands of people raising
questions as to whether we will still have our jobs tomorrow! What can we learn from them?
Will we become tomorrows dinosaurs? Join us for this thought provoking coffee talk!
U N TAfrom the Kenyans forG OCampaign:
              P P E D Kenya L D
Great Lessons

The Kenyan’s for Kenya campaign raked in a staggering 1 billion Kenya shillings! These
are funds that many organization would spend several decades mobilizing from the local
market. Just how did they do it? What is the back story? Where did the idea begin? How
did they get so many media and corporate celebrities to support it? Do you have
questions of your own? Get them answered by an “insider” who was part of it, all over
coffee!

THEFundraising Partnerships With Government
        NEXT FRONTIER:
Forging

The Government is the richest customer in town. Any private sector company knows that
business with the Government is big business! However, with more donors passing
funds through the Government for their programs, its time development organizations
begun taking this source of funds more seriously. 17 donors support the Government
under the Kenya Joint Assistance Strategy (KJAS). Some of these funds are expected to
support Government and NGO activities under a more coherent strategy. This coffee talk
will get you thinking about the Big Bother Next Door!

SEEKING GREEN PASTURES:
Working With the Diaspora

The diaspora is on the roll. They are sending huge amounts of money back home in a
gravy train that seem s to have no end. One would wonder whether there is a financial
crisis in the USA or Europe! The diaspora are supporting families, investing in the
housing boom and occasionally giving others a helping hand. Others contributed to the
Kenyan’s for Kenya campaign. With Kenyan newspapers, television and radio stations
on the internet, they are as wired on what is happening locally as you are. With the new
constitution, they are raring to vote. Others are claiming back their birthright under the
dual citizenship. How can you mobilise some of this money for development activities? Is
there real potential or is it a wasted cause? Is there a pot of gold at the end of the
diaspora rainbow? Its time to join your colleagues in discussing the diaspora factor!
FUNDRAISING ROLLER COASTER:
Providing Funding Stability in Times of Boom and Doom

One time you are dancing in heaven, the next moment you are swimming in hell!
Sometimes you feel like Bill Gates, spending lavishly and living large. The next moment
you are poorer than a church mouse! The fundraising roller coaster is the story of
development. The problem is that it comes with consequences –with organizations building
capacity during times of boom and shedding it during times of doom. With this goes jobs
and incomes at individual level and valuable expertise and experience on an organisation
level. No wonder the more things change, the more they remain the same. Do things have
to be this way? How can we stem the tide? Get your answers in the coffee talk!

M&E RELOADED:
Mining Projects For Fundraising Gold

Monitoring and evaluation has become a donor necessity. You have to collect all that boring
data and statistics on activities and impact just to make them happy! Yet many of us have
missed the bus. M&E allows us to prove that we have what it takes to implement the
project’s to perfection… they are an opportunity to prove that indeed, we are first amongst
equals. By collecting information on what is really happening on the ground, we can
continuously change our strategies so that we excel. Furthermore, they give us the
opportunity to mine our projects for nuggets of gold! If you want change tact and capitalize
on today activities for tomorrow’s success, its time to book a date at the coffee talks!

  • 4. THE FUTURE OF AID: A Look into the Crystal Ball The world is rapidly changing. On an individual basis, the rich are getting richer and the poorer are getting poorer! Yes, the Bill Gates, Soros and others are getting even richer. What’s better, they are giving out some of their money to people with innovative ideas. However, the country level is a different story. Who would have thought that Nicholas Sakozy would be in China seeking financial assistance from it for Europe? Are we witnessing the end of an era? Traditional donors are cutting back on the funding due to the Eurozone crisis. Will your donors still be there tomorrow or will you be left high and dry? Its time to look at the crystal ball and prepare yourself for the future. There isn’t a better way to do it than over coffee! THE RISEFor The Bounty COUNTY: OF THE Positioning Yourself Kenya is changing. There is a new constitutional order --- things are being turned on their heads, nothing seems to be the same! Yet the era of 47 counties is here. 47 counties with 47 Governments and Ksh 3 billion to spend on development matters. What are the opportunities for development organisations? How can you position yourself strategically within the counties? How can you market yourself to County Governments and donors? If you want to explore the counties and the opportunities that they offer, this coffee talk is for you! TRAGEDY OR OPPORTUNITY: Transforming Our Development Approach For the Poor Development organisations thrive on selling poverty and misery as the basis for their programs. They literally strip their target group naked to raise the additional buck! Yet corporate entities follow a different approach. Rather than see people without shoes and decide there is no market, they see the situation as providing a large untapped market. The result is while we literally beg for money to help the poor, these organisations give “the poor” affordable products while laughing all the way to the bank! Is there something we are missing? Some have now set up foundations that are helping thousands of people raising questions as to whether we will still have our jobs tomorrow! What can we learn from them? Will we become tomorrows dinosaurs? Join us for this thought provoking coffee talk!
  • 5. U N TAfrom the Kenyans forG OCampaign: P P E D Kenya L D Great Lessons The Kenyan’s for Kenya campaign raked in a staggering 1 billion Kenya shillings! These are funds that many organization would spend several decades mobilizing from the local market. Just how did they do it? What is the back story? Where did the idea begin? How did they get so many media and corporate celebrities to support it? Do you have questions of your own? Get them answered by an “insider” who was part of it, all over coffee! THEFundraising Partnerships With Government NEXT FRONTIER: Forging The Government is the richest customer in town. Any private sector company knows that business with the Government is big business! However, with more donors passing funds through the Government for their programs, its time development organizations begun taking this source of funds more seriously. 17 donors support the Government under the Kenya Joint Assistance Strategy (KJAS). Some of these funds are expected to support Government and NGO activities under a more coherent strategy. This coffee talk will get you thinking about the Big Bother Next Door! SEEKING GREEN PASTURES: Working With the Diaspora The diaspora is on the roll. They are sending huge amounts of money back home in a gravy train that seem s to have no end. One would wonder whether there is a financial crisis in the USA or Europe! The diaspora are supporting families, investing in the housing boom and occasionally giving others a helping hand. Others contributed to the Kenyan’s for Kenya campaign. With Kenyan newspapers, television and radio stations on the internet, they are as wired on what is happening locally as you are. With the new constitution, they are raring to vote. Others are claiming back their birthright under the dual citizenship. How can you mobilise some of this money for development activities? Is there real potential or is it a wasted cause? Is there a pot of gold at the end of the diaspora rainbow? Its time to join your colleagues in discussing the diaspora factor!
  • 6. FUNDRAISING ROLLER COASTER: Providing Funding Stability in Times of Boom and Doom One time you are dancing in heaven, the next moment you are swimming in hell! Sometimes you feel like Bill Gates, spending lavishly and living large. The next moment you are poorer than a church mouse! The fundraising roller coaster is the story of development. The problem is that it comes with consequences –with organizations building capacity during times of boom and shedding it during times of doom. With this goes jobs and incomes at individual level and valuable expertise and experience on an organisation level. No wonder the more things change, the more they remain the same. Do things have to be this way? How can we stem the tide? Get your answers in the coffee talk! M&E RELOADED: Mining Projects For Fundraising Gold Monitoring and evaluation has become a donor necessity.
