Guest Remarks:
I have known the directors of Friends Adventure
Team for more than 10 years. So far I have done 59
treks & expeditions with them. During these treks &
expeditions besides usual routes I have also explored
many new trekking routes. I often made ascents of peaks
of 5500m to 6654m, discovered new canyons, explored
caves in the limestone rocks and large Himalayan
glaciers of Nepal. I have advised many people to come
to Nepal; over 250 came and used Friends Adventure
Team. All these tourists have enjoyed their trips &
appreciated a professionalism of manager, climbing
guides, trekking guides, canyoning guides, cooks and
porters. Friends Adventure Team is one of the trekking agencies that looks after porters with extra care they are
properly paid, they are given full set of clothes for high altitude trek & even insured.
I highly recommend this trekking agency led by young, energetic & friendly people

We originally planned a trekking trip with Friends Adventure Team (FAT) and, despite unexpected circumstances,
we had a great trip. Rajendra (the owner of FAT) was waiting for us in Kathmandu, and he took us to our hotel. He
suggested places to visit in the city, and checked if we had the necessary gear.
After an amazing flight to Lukla, we began our trek. Our guide and porter were excellent, and we had some very
nice hiking days. In Gokyo, I got sick (pneumonia and pulmonar oedema) and had to be evacuated. Rajendra was
on top of things, and he managed to get a helicopter to take me to Kathmandu.....
Rajendra did everything in his power to help us and he was flexible with rearrenging our plans. Even during a
medical emergency, Rajendra was extremely helpful to take me to Kathmand˙.

expert in mountaineering. Thank you very much.

I recently travelled in Nepal with The Friends
Adventure Team and had a wonderful experience.
My daughter and I were pleased with the friendly
and expert attention we received. The airport
transfers, hotels, restaurants, and tourist activities
were extremely enjoyable. The trek to Everest Base

porter were fabulous. We were treated like family. I
would highly recommend Friends Adventure Team

In December 2010 I was on a trip to Nepal, I was also interested to do the canyoning and had a chance to join a
group where four of us and with Rajendra and his crew we went to Bhote koshi. We had very good days in climbing
down the different canyons. For me it was an experience of a special kind.
A great hospitality in a family environment made me feel so well. All the guides three of them were taking good care
of us for our security on the wall, which is why I had a safety feeling. We had good facilities; the kitchen served us
high standard menu. Thank you for everything.
I would suggest “Friends Adventure Team” and join them when you have time!

I went to Nepal to help with rebuilding after the earthquakes and was suprised at the helpfulness of Rajendra and
his team. Indeed they became good friends and so helpful beyond what might be expected. Rajendra is connected
and is able to set up just about anything you may want to do while in Nepal, be it treking/climbing/caynoneering
or helping with some of the many projects the Rajendra is involved in. Even with the fuel shortage Rajendra was
able to make transportation arrangements to anywhere I needed to go. From being picked up at the airport to
making sure of housing and having meals together, Friends Adventure Team stand out as a amazing group of folks
that really care.
They will assist in accommodations and all arrangements for your time in Nepal, you are in great hands with
Friends of Adventure Team. Namaste, Richard

Trekking in the Himalayas
Nepal is a trekker’s paradise with a myriad of exciting trails to the highest peaks on the planet, with unrivalled
scenery and culture along the way. However brief, trekking is a good introduction to the natural rhythm of life
in the mountains. You travel at your own pace along trails that link settlements, many on ancient trade routes
with Tibet. We lead you through dense forests of rhododendron filled with flora and fauna, up to high mountain
pastures surrounded by towering peaks. Other places are graced with exotic temples and magical monasteries.
Diverse ethnicities along the routes give a fascinating insight into traditional rural lifestyles. The immense contrasts
in altitudes and climates provide a wealth of physical conditions. The cultural heritage and wildlife biodiversity are
second to none.
If you are reasonably physically fit, Nepal’s trails will be a pleasure. No prior skills are required for trekking, simply
an enjoyment of hiking. Possibilities range from short and easy to rigorous and demanding – there is something for
every desire. We offer a wide variety of different treks to suit both first-timers and experienced trekkers. Whether
you have only a few days or many months to spend in the Himalaya, we have an itinerary available for you.
Generally, a day of trekking involves an average of 5 hours hiking with breaks as needed, covering about 9 to 14
kilometers. There is usually ample time for photography and personal interests. Routes pass through forests, valleys,
meadows, fields, idyllic hamlets and over high passes. Nearly all offer the magnificent Himalaya as a backdrop, with
snow-fed rivers, lakes and glaciers. Trekkers stay in simple lodges, homes of local people (homestay) or camp for
the night. We offer many options, from newly opened routes to classic trails, depending on your desired style and
destination.
Trek Grading
Easy
This is a pleasant and easy walk, usually 4-5 hrs walking daily at elevations below 3500m.
Moderate
Relatively low altitude and moderate level trek, crossing passes of not more than 4500m and usually 5-6 hrs walking
daily.
Strenuous
For this type of trek a high level of fitness is required, usually 6-7 hours daily walking including high passes between
4500 to 5700m.

Annapurna means “The Goddess of Abundance” lies in mid- hill region of Nepal. The
Annapurna area is the most famous trekking region of Nepal due to its natural beauty,
cultural and ethnic diversity and proximity. Every year about 60,000 trekkers explore
this region. Annapurna is the first 8000mt mountain conquered. It was accomplished
by Maurice Herzog & Louis Lachenal on June 3rd 1950. The broadest pass, Thorong-la
5416mt, the deepest gorge in the world, Dana, and the biggest rhododendron forest in the
world are other attractions of the region.

(700mt) above sea level and the trail continues up and down along the Marshyandi River and arrives at
Manang Valley (3500) after 4-5 days. The view gets better and better once you hike up, and the landscape,
culture and the surroundings are very fascinating. Virtually, you are amidst the panoramic peaks like Anna.

Special Trek
Upper Mustang
Until recently the Upper Mustang was one of the most isolated and unexplored corners of the Trans-Himalayan
region. Foreign trekkers were first allowed to visit in 1992. Since its opening this region has become a very special
destination for trekkers, despite the expensive permit fees compared to other regions. Once Upper Mustang used
to be a separate kingdom and still it looks like a kingdom of a different kind, not only because of its topographic
uniqueness but also because of its untouched Tibetan culture, people and their traditions. New lodges have made
this trek more comfortable these days.
On the Upper Mustang Trek you can explore many places and strange mysterious cave monasteries that are unique
to the region. Some places are very ancient and have centuries of history to discover: places like the 2500-year-old
Samdzong and Chosar villages or the walled capital city of Lo Manthang. Other ancient monasteries and castles of
the 14th century are on the trails, like Luri, Yara and Konchok Ling. Fossils, which are believed to be older than
the mountains, probably 3 billion years old, have been found. Colourful and unique rock formations along with
canyons carved by the rivers are some of the most eye-catching sights of this region; the rock formations look like a
genuine piece of artwork carved by a famous artist. Finally we can witness the lively day-to-day activities of the local
people and their festivals.

The Upper Dolpo Trek to Shey Gompa brings you into a mystical land where centuries-old Buddhist and Bonpo
traditions, interwoven with shamanistic influences, are still an important part of daily life. The villages, gompas and
people you meet during this trek will leave an unforgettable impression on you. The landscapes here are even more
desolate and the villages even more isolated and pure. Camping is still necessary for this adventure.
Dolpo is the most remote and least-developed district in Nepal. Although a few anthropologists and geographers
had explored the region, the entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989, when the southern part of Dolpo
was opened to organised trekking groups. Peter Matthiessen’s book The Snow Leopard and David Snellgrove’s
Himalayan Pilgrimage have contributed to the mystique and attraction of Dolpo.
The Upper Dolpo Trek route passes many gigantic mountain ranges: Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanjiroba, to
name but a few. It also passes through Lower Dolpo, at one time a small kingdom in its own right. The main
highlight is Shey Gompa, but lesser-known places include Saldang and Dho Tarap. Trekkers in this region enthuse
about the wild remoteness, the stunning mountain scenery and the fact that the local people still have that innocent
friendliness peculiar to people who live in excessively remote mountainous regions.

The Lower Dolpo Trek is a more moderate trek through Dolpo with its maximum elevation at the Numa La
(5238m). It is still high and remote, though. The main attractions are the lively local culture, the charming tur-
quoise lake of Phoksundo (the deepest lake of Nepal) and the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The locals believe that
the lake is the manifestation of a popular female deity, Tara.
After your arrival in Kathmandu, you will enjoy a historical and cultural tour of the Kathmandu valley and its
monuments while we obtain the special permits for the Lower Dolpo Trek. Then we take our flight to Jhupal via
Nepalgunj. The Lower Dolpo Trek is meant for real adventurers wishing for an off-the-beaten-track experience. The
trek passes through Shey-Phoksundo National Park, with spectacular mountain scenery, Buddhist monasteries and
yak caravans. Our trek takes us through a wooded area, then through rugged canyons in the barren plateau near
the border with Tibet. Experience the high altitude tundra and rocks and the microclimate of Lower Dolpo and
Phoksundo, with the cold air of the glaciers of Kanjiroba.

Naar Phu trek
Naar Phu Trekking is one of the best trek of Annapurna region and for those who want to explore hidden valley and
trek off-the beaten path, crossing over the challenging high pass Kangla 5306m from where a magnificent panorama
view of Annapurna & Manaslu massif is quite rewarding. There are two principal villages Naar 4110m & Phu 4080
m. the total inhabitants are about 300 persons who depend on farming & yak herding and follow Buddhism as a
religion. It is the main gateway for climbing expeditions to Kanguru Himal, Him lung, Ratnachuli and other peaks.
Naar Phu Trekking leads to a hidden valley, where the people depend on livestock. Meaning of Nar-Phu is above
the tree line, or the upper limits of cultivation, it is in the very north of Manang district. It takes five hours getting
to the pass that links Nar with Manang and three other Bhotia villages in the Nyershang down valley.
Apart from the odd researcher and climbing expeditions permitted to climb Himlung, Ratnachuli and Gachikang,
few foreigners have visited the area and tourism infrastructure is almost non-existent. Since Annapurna Conservation
Area Project (ACAP) recently extended its network and has included Nar and Phu Valley, it is preparing a suitable
tourism development plan at the request of the government for undiscovered valley.

Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek has recently increased in popularity among trekkers. The trail is along the valley of the
Budi Gandaki River all the way up to the Larkya La pass (5160m). The first 4–5 days follow the narrow valley up via
Machha Khola, Jagat, Ghap, Namrung and Lho. Samagaon, the biggest village, is one of the highlights of the trek;
people here follow Buddhism. The major peaks are Manaslu, Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli (Peak 29), Ganesh Himal,
Shringi Himal and Sonam Samdo.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is located in the historical Gorkha district of Nepal; sightings of high mountains, can-
yons, wild ponies and ethnic villages are common. Some even call it the best all-round trek in Nepal. The Manaslu
Circuit trek is certainly a great alternative to the Annapurna Circuit trek. Trekking here uses lodges more often
now, making the camping choice a less popular option.

Day 19: The Tsum Valley Trek ends / Final Departure
Tsum Valley Trek
The Tsum Valley Trek is one of the most remote areas, located in the northern part of Gorkha district bordering
Tibet. Tsum comes from the Tibetan word “Tsombo” which means vivid. Ganesh and Tewa Himal are in the east,
with Shringi Himal in the west. On a clear day Baudha Himal and Himalchuli are visible in the southwest. The
Tsum Valley is inhabited by Gurung & Tamang people who follow Buddhism as a religion. Animal husbandry and
agriculture are the main profession.
The Tsum Valley Trek hosts many ancient gompas, caves and some of the biggest nunneries – Rachen Gompa,
Dhephudonma Gompa and Gompa Lungdang – in Nepal. After Chokang Paro (Chhekamparo) village, the Tsum
Valley is quite wide and flat with lot of farms. Piren-phu cave is considered very holy in this region, with a very
interesting legend related to it. The famous Tibetan saint and scholar, Milarepa, once mediated in the cave and
during his meditation seven white pigeons used to deliver food and drink to him. Later the cave became quite
famous as a Piren-phu, literally ‘pigeon cave’.

Dhaulagiri Circuit
The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a demanding trek, a classic adventure for those with previous high altitude trekking
experience. It includes a taste of all of the trekking environments that Nepal has to offer.
The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek circles around Dhaulagiri (8167m), the 7th highest peak in the world. It was first
climbed by Kurt Diemberger, Ernest Forrer, Peter Diener, Albin Schelbert, and Nawang Dorje & Nima Dorje on
13th May 1960. After seven days of trek from Darbang you will reach the base camp of Dhaulagiri. The magnificent
view of Annapurna and Nilgiri awaits you while crossing the French col and Dhampus pass. The Dhaulagiri Circuit
Trek has all the features of a classic Nepal trek because in one trip it combines everything from wild landscapes as
remote and beautiful as one can visit amongst the high glaciers of Nepal.

Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek
Rolwaling means ‘the furrow left by the plough’; it is a quiet mountain region with steep-walled valleys as its name
suggests. It is a rugged yet beautiful area rarely visited, unlike the neighbouring Himalaya of Khumbu. It offers lots
of mountaineering challenges to the adventurer.
The Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek involves crossing the high pass of Tashi Lapcha (5,755m) and trekkers must
be equipped with top class gear as well as have some mountaineering experience. The trail starts from Gonggar
Khola, which is 7–9hrs drive from Kathmandu. The trekking normally begins along the Tama Kosi river before a
steep ascent to Simigaon. The trail climbs in the shadows of Gauri Shankar (7,145m) to Beding, Na and the Tsho
Rolpa Lake. The Tashi Lapcha pass is a very demanding climbing route, with some avalanche risks at certain times.
Then the trail drops to Thame, Namche Bazaar and on to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.

Cultural Tour
Nepal is proud to have ten World’s Heritage Sites. Among them, eight are cultural heritage sites and seven of these
are located within Kathmandu valley. Cultural diversity is one of the main attractions of Nepal, there are 101 dif-
ferent ethnic groups and 91 spoken dialects and people following the different religions like Hinduism, Buddhism,
Bon, Kirat, Islam, Jain, Christianity and more. All of them harmoniously co-exist with each other in unity. And
moreover, age old traditions, customs, rituals and festivities around the year make you feel like you are in a living
museum.
Kathmandu Durbar Square
It is popularly known as Hanuman Dhoka which literally trans-
lates to “the door of monkey king”, a true devotee of Ram, the
seventh incarnation of Vishnu, the preserver of universe. Accord-
ing to Hindu religion, the king was also considered as an incarna-
tion of Vishnu. This former royal palace complex is endowed with
castles, monuments, and temples of different gods & goddesses
and is situated next to the city center. One of the main attractions
of Durbar Square is the abode of “The Goddess Kumari”, the
only living goddesses in the world.
Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu temples of the world and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Ancient scrip-
tures in the Vedas, Upanishads & Puranas have described him
as the Lord of all living beings and the source of eternal bliss &
peace. It is recorded that it was rebuilt and provided with a golden
roof by King Shiva Dev III around 1120 A.D. The temple is situ-
ated at the banks of the Bagmati River to the east of Kathmandu
city. It is also royal cremation site. The most important festival is
Mahashivaratri “The Great Night of Shiva” during this festival
even the president comes to pay homage and over two hundred
thousand pilgrimages visit the temple.

Swayambhunath
The huge Mahachaitya is dedicated to Adi Buddha
“Self-Created One” and is situated on the hillock
just 3 kilometers to the west of Kathmandu city
centre. It is believed that the Stupa was built over
the enormous thousand petal lotus with a blue flame
on it. Swayambhunath is one of the holiest sites for
Buddhists. The view of the Kathmandu valley, the
Himalayan range and the sunrise from the stupa is
really fascinating. Tourists call this temple a monkey
temple since there are many monkeys.
Boudhnath Stupa
It is the biggest stupa of Nepal and located 6 km
northeast of Kathmandu city center. It is one of the
most important places of pilgrimage for Buddhists.
In the past, when the trade routes to central and
western Tibet were fully open, traders, pilgrims and
travelers sought blessings at the stupa for safe passage
over the mountain passes and gave thanksgiving to
it upon arrival in Kathmandu. The stupa is believed
to have been built in 5th century AD by the King
Mandev. Everyday, in the evening time the site
becomes quite lively because hundreds of devotees
walk around the stupa and some of them holding
prayer wheels or counting prayer beads and even
some doing prostration.
Patan Durbar Square
Patan retains the most ancient air of all the valley’s
three main cities, beginning with its reputation as
the capital of the Kiranti dynasty. Another reason is
the “Ashoka” stupas built in the four direction of the
city in 250 B.C. The classic name of Patan is Lalitpur
“The City of Beauty”. It is located 5km southeast
of Kathmandu city across the Bagmati River. The
Durbar square is full of ancient monuments, temples,
and shrines, noted for their exquisite craftsmanship
and architectural beauty. While you are in Patan,
the Golden Temple, Kumbheshwor Temple and
Mahabouddha Temple are worth visiting.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur literally means “The City of Devotees”
and is one of Nepal’s greatest treasures, renowned
for its elegant art, fabulous culture, colorful festivals,
traditional dances and typical Newari lifestyle. The
ancient city was built in the shape of a conch shell, a
symbol associated with Lord Vishnu. It was once the
capital of the entire valley and is situated 14 km to
the east of Kathmandu. Tourists visiting Nepal feel
their visit is incomplete unless they get an enchanting
glimpse of this ancient city of culture.

Changu Narayan Temple
This superb pagoda temple is no doubt “a building
that could stand alone to represent the very best in
Nepalese art and architecture.” The valley’s oldest
proven existing temple and its holiest Vishnu shrine,
Changu Narayan, is dedicated to the preserver of
all the living beings of the world and is located 6
km north of Bhaktapur. A Lichhavi King Mandev
established a stone pillar there which dates back to

Shamanism Tour
“Shaman” means a generalized or undifferentiated religious practitioner, one who combines general contact with
the supernatural realm and application of this contact, particularly in curing & healing patients, driving away evil
spirits, and appealing for wealth, health & happiness.
Before the time of Hinduism or Buddhism, Shamanism was followed in diverse ways throughout the world. In
summary, shamans were the world’s first healers, therapists, and mystics, who, over tens of thousands of years,
developed a family of diagnostic, ritual, medicinal, pharmacological, and psychotherapeutic techniques, although
some of which were merely superstitious.
Shamanism in Nepal - As a healer, a shaman may examine a wide variety of phenomena, such as the heart beat,
seeds of rice, and the entrails of animals for signs. They gather medicinal plants from the forest, perform sacrifices,
exorcize demonic spirits, and chant magical incantations to invoke helper deities, and may conduct any number
of other rituals.
Nepal is home to many ethnic groups (about 101). And most of the tribes have shamans. As a result there are
thousands of shamans and they are as important as doctors to Nepalese society. That is why Nepal is undoubtedly
one of the most famous destinations for shaman tours in the world

there is a huge diversity of various
plantsandherbswhichisaparadise

the nectar and juice from flowers

literal meaning. But it has ritual
value because it is one of the 5

Nepal is one of the best destinations worldwide for white water
rafting. Bulging, Himalayan fed rivers crash down through the
foothills on their way to the plains. FAT offers a wide range of
safe and fun challenges depending on your thrill seeking desires.
The wet and wild action is followed by relaxation on serene
beaches for meal breaks and overnight camping.
Rafting is one of the major tourism products of Nepal. There are
three major river systems with more than 250 sizeable tributaries.
Since all the principal rivers originate from Himalaya, and some
even from the Tibetan plateau, rivers will have enough water
flow and pass through deep gorges, valleys and plains that
provide both challenging rapids as well as gentle flows. There
are plenty of options to choose from as per the grade & length
of rivers; for instance we can arrange just a day rafting trip up
to 10 days. The main rivers of Nepal for rafting are the Trishuli
River, Bhote Koshi River, Marsyandi River, Seti River, Sunkoshi
River, Karnali River, Arun River, and Kali Gandaki River.
For Hindus, rivers are very holy and cremation activities takes
place at the confluence of rivers, All the rivers of Nepal make
“The Ganga” the most holy river of India. As you paddle down
the river along the way you can witness different flora and fauna,
cremation sites, temples, ever changing landscapes, beautiful
sand beaches, local fisherman, and people bathing and doing
their laundry.
Trishuli River Rafting
The first two days are relatively easy and allow time to train
you as a team before the bigger rapids arrive. The rapids have
acquired manes like Meat Grinder, High Anxiety, Jaws and Big
dipper, from previous experiences on expeditions. Say no more!
The calmer stretches between rapids give you time to take in the
phenomenal views, swim (voluntarily) in warm water and camp
on the pristine white sandy beaches.
Key Facts of the Trip:
Trishuli: River created by Lord Shiva with his Trident
Location: The central region of Nepal
Season: Sept-Dec
Grade: 4
Duration: 1-3 days
Distance: 15-60 km rafting action

Bhote Koshi River Rafting
‘Bhote’ roughly translates, as ‘River from Tibet’; so there are
quite a lot of Rivers with this name in Nepal. Bhote Kosi
the main branch of the Sun Kosi is a beautiful mountain
river starting through Tibet. No doubt, the river-rafting in
Bhotekosi offers the full action packed up with short white-
water run in Nepal. It takes three and half hours drive from
Kathmandu to get to the starting point of Bhote-Koshi
River’s Rafting.
The river drops steeply offering relentless stretches of grade
III-IV white-water. Boulder gardens, small waterfalls, steep
chutes and 90 degree bends are the obstacles to be overcome.
This river is not a typical of the big volume waters of the
Himalayan, it is steep and technical and requires a reactive
crew.
Key Facts of the Trip:
Bhotekoshi: River originated in Tibetan plateau
Location: The central region of Nepal.
Season: Sept-Dec
Grade: 5
Duration: 1-2 days
Distance: 25 km rafting action
Marsyandi River Rafting
The Marsyangdi River is one of the most outstanding
grade IV Kayaking Rivers in the world. Continuous,
exhilarating white-water with magnificent mountain
backdrops, Marsyandi drains through the northern slope of
the Annapurna Himal. It flows East through an arid valley
around Manang and then swings south to join the Trisuli
River at Mugling. Marsyangdi means ‘Raging River’ in local
dialect.
It was opened to commercial rafting in 1996 and demands
100% commitment from both crew and guide. It is totally
different from the big volume rivers like Sun Kosi and
Karnali, the rapids are technical and require a very different
approach. Need 100% power and a good line, fast reactions
from crew to get through this pinball machine and quickly
forges raft crews of complete strangers into true teams.
Key Facts of the Trip:
Marsyandi: Means raging river
Location: The western region of Nepal.

Grade: 5
Duration: 3 days
