Isotatic & Die Pressing Expert–Pressing Team Lead, Morgan Advanced Ceramics, Hayward, CA (1997 – Present)
Morgan Advanced Ceramics-Hayward (MAC-H) with 140 employees is a vertically integrated ceramic manufacturing company
with capabilities from ceramic powder formulation to firing to machining to metal-ceramic assemblies. MAC-H is part of Morgan
Crucible, a $2B global materials company with over 9000 employees.
• Responsibilities:
o Manage daily production activities from scheduling to job assignment
o Direct and oversee up to 12 production staffs in powder pressing
o In house expert on Die pressing and Isostatic pressing
o Setup up die and equipment for powder pressing
o Worked with 2500 ton press, Dorst mechanical presses ranging from 4 ton to 100 ton, Gasbarre, Stokes, and
Rucker hydraulic presses
o Familiar with many different tooling types from pneumatic, encoder control, double and single acting die.
o Perform sampling, in process inspection, and adjust press settings as needed to maintain green weight and
height to achieve desired as-fired dimensions with tight tolerance up to 0.0005”
o Responsible for monitoring and improving Quality (including traceability, ISO 9000 and 14001 procedure),
Production Processes, Throughput and Safety within Pressing Department
o Assist Engineer in design, develop and procure tooling, fixture, and equipment for production purposes
o In charge of monthly cycle count and quarterly inventory
o Work with outside vendors on tooling and Aramark on work apparel and uniform services for entire facility.
• Notable achievements:
o Work with Engineers on new product development such as Kilovac stem valve, Agilient ceramic mass
spectrometer quadropole, ITI precision check valve, and perform tests to improve process for dry pressing using
different die lubricant, fill shoe design, and part accumulator table.
o Participated the On-time Delivery team to achieve improvement in Plant OTD from 60% to 90%+
o Helped to test and implemented a visual scheduling system which improved product flow, work center loading,
and knowing job status at all time. This has reduced product lead time out of department, improved efficiency
by using less labor with higher throughput and made it possible to achieve up to 100% on time.
o Participated in successfully transfer of new product lines for 99.8% alumina process from an acquired facility
(A several million dollar product line)
o Performed 5S Kaizen event to organize Isopress area and setup an inventory system to track all pressing tooling.
Dry Press Operator, Wesgo Ceramics - GTE, Belmont, CA (1983 to 1997)
o Responsible for VX crucible & night vision ring product line operation from scheduling to manufacturing.
o Conducted engineering tests and helped transferring FA94 material to make heat insulator products for
refrigeration and AC system
o Trained new operators and responsible for all setup in dry press
o Worked with tool room to maintain and replaced tooling as needed
Metal Operator, Wesgo Metal, Belmont, CA (1982 to 1983)
o Worked in a refinery operation to recover precious metals such as platinum, gold and silver. Operation includes
extraction using chemical process to separation, filtration, melting and forming.
Slip cast Operator, Wesgo Ceramics - GTE, Belmont, CA (1979 to 1982)
o Responsible from scheduling, processing slip material to casting and inspecting of final products.
