2. In this PowerPoint I will be going through the basic
conventions of a school based magazine as part of my
preliminary task and then I will go through the conventions
of a general magazine and how it Is represented and how it
relates to the reader .

3. The masthead
contains the title of
the magazine and also
contains the banner
within the title. The
masthead is usually
bold and clear and
catches the readers
attention. And is
easily recognisable.
The school banner
contains the schools
motto and in this
case the motto is
encouragement, pro
gression, achieveme
nt.
The headline tries to
gain the readers
attention and intrigues
the reader to read the
magazine in this case
the readers students and
parents to find out
what's going on at
school
The Anchorage
contains a brief
overview of what
is in the article
and intrigues and
interests the
audience to read
the article.
The main image This
contains and includes two
students from the school
looking happy and are
presentable and are
representing the school in a
well mannered way . The
students in the picture also
represent and relate to the
main article.

4. The masthead- It stands
out with the colours used
and stands out on the
background of the
magazine and catches the
readers attention.
Date- Giving a date to
show the magazine is
fully up to date and
will give you the
latest facts and
information from
what the magazine is
based around.
Main Cover linesThey are mainly
bigger than the res t
of the fonts on the
page. It catches the
readers attention as
it stands out . This
intrigues the reader
to buy the magazine
and read it.
The main image- The
main image is usually
placed in the centre of he
magazine and covers a bit
of the title. This shows the
magazine Is well known
and people ill
automatically know that
the magazine is called
vogue even If the g is not
there.
Cover line- Written in
bold and right colours and
stand out against the
light background the
subheading underneath
allows the reader to
understand what the story
is about.

5. Masthead- The
masthead tells the
reader clearly what
magazine they are
reading. The Masthead
is usually big bold and
bright to catch the
readers attention and
draw them in and
persuade them to buy
the magazine.
Main image- Is
usually placed in the
centre and is usually
the main story in the
magazine. Its also
linked to the main
cover line.
Main cover lineThe font is much
larger compared to
the other fonts on
the page as the
main cover line
needs to stand out.

image and intrigues
readers to buy this
magazine.
Barcode- to
make it legal to
sell in shops or
other retail
markets.
Kickers- This is
to show what other
stories will be n the
magazine it gives
an insight to
readers what will
be in the magazine
and intrigue them
to buy the
magazine.
Flash- A piece of information on the
magazine that Is not related to the topic of
magazine. This is to broaden the target
audience to a wider variety and not just
people who like music.

6. In these next few slides I am going to analyse and break down 3 images
of the same girl and annotate them and see how different features can
change the girls image completely.

7. Her smile shows her
innocence and
youthfulness it shows that
she is happy and cheerful
which is how the youth
should be portrayed as
happy and smiling rather
than giving a negative image
across.
The belt stands out as
it is multi-coloured
and as the rest of the
picture is all light the
belt stands out as it is
bright. It also shows a
sign of her having a
hipster side and more
peaceful look.
Her hair and the way is done
gives a girly look to her as it is
let down loosely and it looks
natural. The blond colour
gives her more of a innocent
look and connotes
youthfulness.
Her body posture
shows that she is
relaxed and
comfortable the way
she is leaning slightly.
The background colour
the light blue mixed with
white created a calm feel
and peaceful picture.
The scarf also shows a
relaxed and warm feeling
as the colour is quite a
dark light colour which
comes through as calm
and cool.

8. Her hair is messy
and all over the
place this implies
she is not worried
about her hair but
more about her
body posture.
Her body posture is
more structures in
this picture and gives
a more open feel and
more sexier look to
the model and there
is no sign of
innocence in this
picture.
The dog collar that she
is wearing around her
neck is implying she is
animal like and sexual
feel.
The background colour gives more of a
danger as the colour red to most people
implies danger or some sort of trouble. It
also gives a more sexier feel to the picture.
The background colour red also matches
the models lipstick which increases the
meaning of the picture and makes the
model look more sexy. The colour red also
implies a sexual mysterious women .
The clothes she is wearing are
revealing her chest which could
imply she is bringing across a
sexual feel and wants people to
be drawn in by it. The colour
black again implies mystery.
She is also revealing
her stomach which
also implies a sexual
feeling the same Way
as she is revealing her
chest

9. Her facial expression also
shows attitude and like she
doesn't really care about
anything it exaggerates the
expression from the
background.
Her hand gesture is blocking people out
and not letting anyone in. It also shows
attitude.
Her body posture is stiff and
is showing a attitude and not
wanting to open herself up
to anyone. Its more
conserved and she may be
self conscious.
The hair in this photo
is more lifted and not
as loose this is more of
a stylish look.
The colour scheme of this
picture shows mysteriousness
and a dark mysterious side to
the model.
Her clothes are more baggy
and not showing her figure
as much but the blackness
doesn't show any type of
body shape and makes us
guess her body shape.
