1. Double page spread

3. I chose this image as it immediately caught my eye and also because it is a locaton
shot (not in a studio) which is the style of photo’s I want. The image is of a rock/metal
band and this is clearly recognizable just by looking at the image.
The image is eerie and dark, this gives a mysterious atmosphere. This fits in with my
rock/metal music genre. The tattoo’s, spiked up hair and ripped shirts really blends in
with the dark and damp background and compliments the style of music. The image
gives a rebellious feel which again is very similar to the type of music featured.
I would consider this a suitable image as it is good quality. As well as this, although the
models have been staged to stand in particular places, the photo still appears natural.
I also admire the fact that all the models have a similar look, you can tell that they are
a band. Although the background really gives the image the ‘edgy’ feel, the
background is simple and not too cluttered meaning that there is more focus on the
models. This is something I must consider for my magazine as I plan on taking location
photo’s. I must ensure the background is not to busy and that I do not take the focus
from the models.
The only negative about this image is that I feel there is too much open space
background and I do not think that would work well in a magazine. However if the
image was cropped, I would see no issue with it.

5. Initially, I really liked this image and I would have deemed it being suitable as a
cover image. However after it further thought, I realized that this image would be a
very bad choice for a cover image; however it would suit being placed on the
Double page spread. The reason behind this is that the “writing” background on the
image would distract from the masthead and other images on the page,
consequently making the reader unsure of where to look; what is text and what is
the image. Though, as I mentioned before, I believe this image would look quirky
and eye catching on a double page spread.
This image of Paramore gives a rebellious and care-fee feel. The scribbled
background
and harsh font compliments the rock type of music and the anger sometimes in the
band
when they sing (such as shouting lyrics). You do not see many images with this kind
of background so I feel it would really attract attention to the double page spread.
Overall however, I prefer the idea of a location background, thus, will not be using
this type of background. I also think maybe all the writing may be too much for
readers and perhaps off putting.

7. I chose this image because I am really interested in shooting on location. I
see so many magazines with the same ‘white studio background’ so I feel
something different is very refreshing.
I love the style of this image. It instantly shows the viewer the type of music
that will be featured and I love the alternative style to it. The photo is taken
at an unusual angle which makes it very eye catching. The only criticism I
have for this image is that the models faces are too dark and the bright light
shining through the stairs takes the attention off the models. Therefore when
I do my shoot I will remember to ensure my models faces are well lit and I
will double check for any light flairs to avoid distraction.
Otherwise, I am inspired by the alternative location and the positions of the
models. It has given me more ideas about where I take my photo’s and the
positions of my actors.
Overall this would be a good photo for a double page spread. It’s eye
catching, fits In with the theme and is unique which are all factors that I want
for my magazine.
