moto is “donate to educate”.
As part of their efforts, seven members of the Raqsh team were

sole purpose in mind; pursuing their vision and achieving their
mission of educating the under-privileged.
Kuwait’s Ambassador to Jordan, Dr Hamad Al Duaij, accompanied
the team to Al Zatari Camp, where Kuwaiti charities have been
working to assist Syrian refugees. The team distributed 1000
books to children in need at Kuwaiti schools set up in the camp.
On their second day, the Raqsh team visited the Kuwaiti Charity
Market, where donations from the Kuwaiti people are displayed
for distribution. Syrian families living in critical conditions around
Jordan are transported to the market to receive donations that
will help them cope with the unfavorable conditions they live
through every day. The team handed out donations to these
families and hosted small activities for the kids to revive their
young souls and allow them to be stress-free for an hour or two.
The Raqsh team was fortunate enough to be able to draw smiles

Marina FM… Entertainment redefined
Founded in 2005, Marina FM was able to quickly set itself
apart in broadcast media, not only in Kuwait but also in the
entire region. The radio station took to broadcasting programs
and material with a distinctively entertaining style, steering
away from conventional protocol that was getting boring for
the growing younger generation.
The station’s focus on entertainment did not mean overlooking
its national role; Marina FM has been shown great support for
national issues and has broadcast special programs during
national celebrations. It is also known for its ability to react
quickly in times of emergencies.
Mr Al Sanea said, “Marina FM has undoubtedly become the
number one media destination for the region’s listeners
because of its commitment to the plans drawn on day one. It
has adopted a different entertaining style from the traditional,
and the recent launch of Marina TV has come to build on this
success.”

its relationship with listeners and increase their numbers
steadily. The station won the Best Radio Station Award and its
Diwaniya Program won the Best Radio Program Award.
Challenges
About the challenges faced by United Networks, Mr Al Sanea
said, “United Networks Group has the technical capabilities,
and its ambition has enabled it to be at the forefront locally
and regionally. Having said that, we find that the technical and
technological capabilities in Kuwait have not kept up with the
commercial developments in this sector, limiting the services
that our companies can provide to their customers.”
Future prospects
In response to a question about the future projects of the
company, Mr Al Sanea said that Gulfsat is now focusing on
overseas expansion in order to increase network coverage and
provide backup support for the local network. As for Gulfnet,
the challenge is to keep pace with the rapid developments in
this sector to provide the best services for government entities,
banks and companies. Overall, United Networks’ efforts focus
on systems security because government agencies and banks
are in need of such services.
He added, “We keep eye on the global developments in the
technology and communication sector and work to bring it to
Kuwait, because when you are the first company to provide
modern, high quality services, undoubtedly you will acquire
the largest share of the market.”

Kuwaiti, Emirati and Egyptian police fight illegal TV operators
OSN scoops two industry awards
OSN has commended the efforts of the
police forces in Kuwait, UAE and Egypt for
carrying out successful raids against illegal
TV operators in the cities of Kuwait, Ajman
and Cairo.
Kuwaiti authority raids led to the confiscation
of decoders belonging to unlicensed,
unauthorized and illegitimate India-based
DTH service, Dish TV. Police also gathered
further evidence by activating the Dish TV
smartcards. The shopkeeper was arrested
for questioning by the Kuwaiti Crime
Investigation Department.
Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities conducted
successful raids at two shops in the Bab
Elok in Cairo, resulting in the confiscation
of illegal TV decoders, a personal computer
with IP activated codes, local area connector
converters, and IPTV software with flash
memory cards. Two men were arrested in
the raids.
And in the UAE, following the crackdown on TV
piracy in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah that
was led by the concerted efforts of leading
pay-tv network OSN, Ajman Department of
Economic Development (DED) has stepped
up efforts to crackdown illegal providers.
Ajman DED also issued a stark warning to all
illegal TV service providers underlining that
South Asian services such as Dish TV India,
Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel and Reliance
decoders are unauthorised and unlicensed
in the MENA region. The authorities have
also warned against the use of illegal cables,
hybrid decoders and digital piracy.
Commenting on the raids, CEO of OSN, Mr
David Butorac said, “The raids demonstrate
that the fight against illegal TV-piracy isn’t
just confined to one or two countries but is
a region-wide issue that needs cooperation
from a number of agencies and the public
at large. As the authorities have outlined,
perpetrators can expect tough penalties for
flouting the law as the campaign to stamp out
TV-piracy gains momentum and awareness
across the region increases.”

all in one network – that is what the OSN-HBO team assures.”
Extended Warner Bros deal – First & Exclusive on OSN
OSN has signed an exclusive output agreement with Warner
Bros. International Television Distribution for ‘first and
exclusive’ access to its premium content for the Middle East
and Northern Africa – underlining OSN’s prime position as the
home of blockbuster movies and series.
The long-term agreement between OSN and Hollywood’s
leading studio has been extended to 2020. This means
subscribers will have continued first and exclusive access
to Warner Bros.’ huge range of blockbuster movies in the
shortest possible span after their theatrical release, as well as
its top-rated award winning TV series.
Exclusive movie buy-out deal with Eagle Films & Gulf
Film
In landmark deals, signed with Eagle Films and Gulf Film,
OSN has bought out the transactional window for over 300
blockbuster movies, weeks after their theatrical release,
further strengthening OSN’s commitment to bring the biggest
movies exclusively and first to viewers in the Middle East and
North Africa.
Continued investment in premium Arabic content
One of the biggest and most eagerly awaited shows to launch
in 2016 is ‘Saturday Night Live Arabia’, which will be available
exclusively on OSN. As the home of premium Arabic content in
true HD, OSN will also provide the exclusive first opportunity
to watch the incredible story of ‘Kosem Sultan’ (from the
producers of Hareem Al Sultan) depicting one of the most
powerful women in Ottoman history.
Original and premium Gulf dramas will air every day at 9pm
while top-rated Turkish dramas will screen at the same time
as it airs in Turkey. Plus, award-winning localised versions
of ‘Prison Break’, ‘Mad Men’, ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘Who Wants To
Be a Millionaire’ will be brought to the region exclusively on
OSN Yahala HD. 2016 will also see the launch of OSN’s fourth
Arabic channel – OSN Yahala Cinema HD – the first Arabic HD
movie channel, bringing new Arab releases straight from the
movie theatre to homes.
“While connectivity has redefined how TV is enjoyed globally,
one of the new trends in the industry is how audiences look
for regional content that they can relate to. We are bringing
more regional flavour with the widest assortment of Arabic
programming next year,” explained Ms Khulud Abu Homos,
‎Executive VP - Programming & Creative Services of OSN.
New launches also include Discovery’s ‘Nida’a Show’ – ‘a voice
and platform for Arabic women’ that will air in October this
year only on TLC HD channel. OSN is working closely with
leading international channels to invest in local content for
Arabic viewers, complementing the extensive offering already
available.
Region’s first Digital Video Store
OSN has also launched ‘OSN Store’, the region’s first and
largest buy and keep, electronic sell-through platform in the
Middle East that enables customers to purchase and ‘store’
movies in true high-definition for unlimited viewing. More
than 1,500 movies, including over 20 titles, will be available
just days after its theatre release exclusively on OSN Store.
Customers will also be able to pre-order their favorite movies/
shows before anyone.

Police also gathered further evidence by activating the Dish TV smartcards. The shopkeeper was arrested for questioning by the Kuwaiti Crime Investigation Department. Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities conducted successful raids at two shops in the Bab Elok in Cairo, resulting in the confiscation of illegal TV decoders, a personal computer with IP activated codes, local area connector converters, and IPTV software with flash memory cards.
