2. They say that patience is a virtue. But when time seems to be running out, people are starting to annoy you,
and things don’t go according to what you have planned, that virtue tends to diminish. And when that happens,
things become worse. You easily get worried, stressed, and angry. The absence of patience will make you
resort to haste which causes more problems. So if you think that your lack of patience is ruining your life, there
are steps you can take to improve it. Listed below are ways on how to improve your patience.
Make it a goal. If you want to start improving your patience, then make it one of your goals and make
sure that you put your mind into it. If you have a list of goals, include it and make sure that you go
through it every day. Constantly remind yourself of your desire to be more patient and believe that
you will reap its rewards. And like any other goal, keep your eye on it and do whatever you can to
accomplish it.
Slow down. Like what I mentioned above, the lack of patience will make you rush around and hurry
things up. When you’re starting to lose your patience, just stop. Drop whatever it is you are doing and
try to relax your body and calm your mind before continuing whatever it is you are doing. Sit down,
take deep breaths, and focus on something that makes you feel good. When the mind and body is
relaxed, your patience and energy will replenish and you will be able to finish your tasks well.
3. Delay gratification. When you are running out of patience there will be urges that you want gratified
right away such as giving in to anger and compulsive eating or buying. Deny yourself of those
gratifications especially if those urges are the result of impatience. Do not allow yourself to do things
that you will regret afterwards just because you’ve grown impatient.
Think first. Like what was mentioned earlier, as much as possible you don’t want to do things that
you will regret afterwards, so always make sure to think first before doing the first thing that comes
out of your head. Always consider the consequences and ask yourself if it is worth doing. Find out if
your actions will help the situation or if it will hurt you or others.
4. Stay positive. Staying positive has proven to help the situation especially when your patience is being
tested. When things don’t go according to plan and the situation starts to become messy, always try to
look at the brighter side. Doing so will help you find hope and inspiration that will encourage you to
be more patient.
When people are making you angry, always try to remain cool and patient. When everyone else seems to give
up, hold on and keep moving forward. The purpose of patience is to help you get through difficult times so you
can emerge victorious afterwards.
“Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and
slow – that is patience.”
