Search is one of the major enhancements in SharePoint 2013 after adopting FAST server features. You can utilise search in a lot of other scenarios not related to direct search that we used to. In this webinar I am going to explore the new features in SharePoint search and how to use it for content publishing.

- When customers/companies look for a search solution, they are not just looking for a search engine/core, its not just about delivering a search index, a search box,it’s the end-to-end experience they need and want.Here it is the new SharePoint search experience, we paid huge amount of attention to make the search experience intuitive, engaging and easy to use.What you’ll notice is that true to our goal with the new and innovative experience we can surface the right information you need when you need it.With this example query “Green Thermal Decks”, you’ll see that we surfaced PPT decks and placed them on top of the search results based on a combinationof query rules and usage pattern analysis. Again a search engine should know what you are looking for and show you that, this is now part of our new search experience.Ultimately our goal is to get people the info they need as quickly as possible, and if we can do that without even showing a search result page that is a win. Here is a example of autocomplete experience that not only shows you common queries, but actually allows you to navigate back to past results you’veinteracted with.In the background so much is going on to show and surface these results, and make sure the right results are surfaced in a intuitive way to the right users, this is whyours is more then a just search engine or a search box… but a unique experience.
- The term “search experience” is important, because not all search results are the same and not all searches should do the same thing.SharePoint gives provides get great search results, but also provides the ability to do specific tasks such as finding expertise, people.But it’s more than finding names, it’s finding “experts”… It’s content based, not profile based; this means that we are able to find what people know based on what they actually authored and published. A combination of technology from MSFT Research and FAST allows us to do just that andeven understand names that are written in other languages, and match them to their native form(example: Name written in Russian Cyrillic can be typed as it sounds in English and will still return the correct person)You’ll also notice on the right side the people hover card, which enables users to quickly inspect and find what they are looking for. The hover card experiencechanges based on content type, in this case for people/expertise we can easily see Past projects, Interests and more importantly the documents theyhave worked on relevant to the topic “Green Thermal” (query). The relevant “worked on “documents and actions also allows for a natural and intuitive experience, when the goal is not just finding a result but getting a task done.
- Answering a question is only helpful if the user can act on it, and SharePoint makes acting natural and intuitive with the introduction of thehover card.From the hover card you can do a live preview of a document, deep dive into that document, in meaning not just to the right document butto the right part of the of the document with the introduction of a new features called “deep links”.And finally you can act on that result with contextual actions based on the document itself.So for an example for a person result, actions can be follow/send email/view profile, while for a video it can be play/share/etc.All of this is also extensible and customizable allowing you to make search actionable for any content and create a richer experience.

- Land this point: This is how it all comes together. We've brought together SharePoint and Exchange (which has the same embedded Search engine). In addition to OOB search verticals such as video search, we have made it very easy to build custom solutions on top of our platform. Microsoft’s robust partner ecosystem further adds to the richness of our offerings. Here are the talking points for eDiscovery. Overview: Compliance demands are increasing as content grows explosively while regulations become stricter. In Office 15, we are easing the burden of compliance with joint investments across SharePoint and Exchange. Office 15 includes new capabilities that reduce the costs and complexity of eDiscovery by providing a single interface to manage discovery across SharePoint, Exchange, Lync, and file shares. Talking Points· Microsoft eDiscovery focuses on the early stages of the electronic discovery reference model (EDRM). Our research shows that most organizations prefer to perform the early stage functions of EDRM in-house including identifying, preserving, collecting, and processing discovery content. The later stages of discovery (review, analysis, and production) are typically outsourced to a third-party firm. · Unified discovery and export: A single interface is available to perform complex discovery searches across Exchange, SharePoint, Lync, and file shares in real time using a state-of-the-art search platform that supports the use of Boolean, wildcard, and proximity syntax. Search queries can be exported to download content for further review by a third party.· In place preservation: SharePoint sites and Exchange mailboxes can be preserved in their entirety or based on a query to protect content in their original store without impacting the end user’s ability to edit and delete content. This also eliminates the need to set up a separate environment to store the content that needs to be protected.
