From this question it is clear that Dead Man’s Shoes is the most watched film. Due
to the fact I sent members of my target audience this questionnaire (late teens
and middle aged people) I think it would be a good idea to use similar elements to
the Dead Man’s Shoes film. Evidence suggests that the film is popular with my
target audience.
3. A large amount of these results show that poor environments and working class life
is expected in the social realism genre. Therefore in my trailer I will feature lots of
run down areas that appear to be struggling. Violence is also a common answer, I
have taken this suggestion on board and will try to integrate it with my narrative in
a way I can satisfy the specification. However I will not be able to take the ‘drugs’
suggestion on board as this is not permitted in the guidelines. Emotion is also a
common answer, I will try and use this to my advantage.
4. Again poor areas is a common answer for this question. This really shows that
audiences of a social realism film really expect to see rough working class locations.
Dark themes and images also seem to be common answers. This will be taken
advantage of when it comes to creating my trailer. There also seems to be an
inclination, when specific locations are given, to locate this film in the North. This is
very good for me as currently I am located in the North.
5. This answer shows an overwhelming amount of ‘yes’ answers. However if I were to do
this questionnaire again I would change the wording and offer them a choice of two
narrative ideas and change the question to a closed question. At the time I kept it as an
open question to see if anyone cared to elaborate on their decision. I will take this
evidence on board because all answers point in the same direction, however I have to
be weary due to the wording of the question.
6. Eleven out of thirteen people think that a trailer is most effective. Taking this on
board I will try and make my trailer the strongest of my three products. Some
people suggested the poster as the most effective so I will have to make sure this
is also a strong product.
7. Bullying and victimisation seems to be a recurring answer. This will work well with the
narrative idea previously suggested on the other question. Friendship also seems to be
a popular theme, from earlier research I also found this was a common theme. Family
issues are also amongst the results. I already had a context in mind which covered a
family issue, therefore I am pleased to see this result works well with my decision.
Drugs again is common but cannot be featured.
8. With this question I have the same problem as before, again I was hoping people would
elaborate. Someone has kindly shown me my flaw in the question by answering ‘Yeah I
guess lol’. However the evidence does show a strong yes answer, meaning no one disliked
the idea.
9. I was unsure of the outcome of this answer when I initially asked the question,
this question will help decide a large part of the mise en scene of my trailer.
The answer swayed in heavy favour of the 1990’s. Therefore I will try and
make my trailer look like its from the 1990’s. This will have a massive influence
on costume and props within my trailer.
10. The majority of people agree that they would expect an ending that favours
the main character. Some elaborate by saying there needs to be a twist at the
end, therefore I will take this on board when creating my trailer. I will try and
make the ending interesting in some way.
11. Overall evaluation
The questionnaire shows a good range of answers which point strongly in certain
directions. The majority of people expect to see working class and poor areas.
This will be used in the creation of my trailer. I have some good base ideas that
were made clearer with the answers of the questionnaire. However there are
some things that cannot be featured for specification reasons i.e. drugs. The next
step I want to take in my idea development is the creation of a mood board to
get a general feel for the atmosphere and overall narrative of my trailer.
