5. My posters In all three of these posters that I constructed it is clear that there is one main image. Thus I think my posters fit with the typical convention of having a main image to focus on. I think the images I have used are good because they are of one specific thing (face and eye) and not a mid shot of a person. Therefore, it think this makes them stand out more as there is nothing else to draw the attention away from the centre (there isn’t too much going on leaving people confused about where to look first).
6. Typical conventions … Simplistic fontsIn all of the posters I thought the fonts used for the titles were extremely simplistic – sometimes with a small added effect e.g. in ‘the strangers’ poster. I think this is effective because the image is the main attraction and so a fancy font isn’t needed. Because the picture is so good, there is no need to have fancy fonts because the picture ‘does the talking’. If there was any fancy fonts on here it would take some attention away from the main image and thus would have a negative effect. In this poster, it is clear that all attention should be going to the picture. This is obvious because of the editing on the eyes and the fact that the background is black and there is nothing else going on apart from the main image.
7. My Posters Again, in this poster the font is simplistic. However, I think this poster fits less well with this convention because of the sizing of the title ‘the haunting’ and the use of the color red on the tagline when everything else is black and white. These two factors make the title and tagline stand out a little bit more than the other posters but I still think it works well. My posters fit with this convention because I think the image should be the main attraction on my poster and so I did not feel like I needed a fancy font. However I did use the smudge tool on ‘the haunting’ at the top because I felt like it needed spicing up a tiny bit so that it didn’t come across as boring.
8. Typical conventions … A tag lineThese taglines allow the audience to get an idea of what the film will be about if they cannot work it out from the title and the image. Some are more effective than others. If the tagline is good and exciting then it may make the viewer want to come and see the film – if they are ‘on the fence’ about coming to see the film then a catchy tagline might stick in their head and might be what ‘pushes them over the edge’ as such. Here are some examples:
9. My posters I think this particular convention of film posters is one of the most important ones. This is because on pretty much every single poster I looked at, there was a tagline. Taglines seem to leave a catchy message in your head that you will remember and associate with that film. Therefore I used one on my poster I think it works well because it isn’t the first thing you look at but its not too hidden so that you don’t see it. The one problem I do think I have is that on the poster on the left it doesn’t stand out as well as it does on the others. I thought the red would stand out more than the white but now I feel like I should have done the colours the other way round.
