 It was said that the Earth is so big that you
can not do significant damage, but not
  anymore.
 What is the most vulnerable part of the
  ecological system?
   › ATMOSPHERE
 So thin is its composition that we can change
  it.
 This is the basis of global warming.
 The Sun's radiation comes in waves of light
  that warms the Earth.
 Some of the radiation that is absorbed and
warms the Earth back into space as infrared
  radiation.
 Part of this radiation that comes out is
trapped by the atmosphere and retained.
 What this does is keep the temperature and that the
Earth is safe to stay alive, and that's good.
 The trouble is that by becoming thicker atmosphere, all
the contamination of human beings, more infrared
radiation is trapped and heats the atmosphere around
    the world.
 Roger Revelle, was among the first people who
set out to measure carbon dioxide in the
  atmosphere.
 After 7.8 and 9 years of studies could look at
the pattern that was developing in up and down
  every year.
 Why go up and down every year?
 If you see the planet's land mass is mostly in
the north of Ecuador as well as most of the
  vegetation.
 When the Northern Hemisphere is tilted
toward the sun, in spring and
summer, leaves and breathe out carbon
  dioxide.
 This causes the amount in the atmosphere
  decreases.
 What happens when the
  northern hemisphere is
  tilted away from the sun?
 As the leaves fall and emit
  carbon dioxide.
 As a result, the amount in
  the atmosphere rises.
 Carbon dioxide was first
  measured from 1958 to
  today.
 1000 year to 2005 carbon dioxide has
    increased by over 40%.
 Global warming has increased over 80%.
 When there is more carbon dioxide the
    temperature is warmer.
 If we travel back 650.000 years we see that
there are 7 ice ages the carbon dioxide has
never gone from 300 parts per million.
 Today is beyond the natural.
 Temperatures are caused by:
    › Floods
    › Drought
    › Storms
    › Hurricanes
    › Tornadoes
    › Earthquakes
 If the ocean temperature rises, storms get
  stronger.
 Such as:
    › Frances
    › Jeanne
    › Ivan
    › Tornadoes
    › Emily
    › Dennis
    › Katrina
 See that hot pink on the
  map above?
 That color is new.
 While March was warmer
  than average but not as
  much as, for example,
  2010 or many of the
  months in 2010 (which
  broke numerous
  records), the Arctic
  (where the most warming
  has been predicted by
  climatologists) did see
  some pretty
  tremendously warm
  temperatures (relatively
  speaking).
 As a result, climatologists
had to add that hot pink
  color.
Effect of Global Warming
Earthquake

Geological changes related
to climate can
also cause "eruptions of
methane," the release of a
potent greenhouse gas, curren
tly stored in solid form
under the seabed and layers
of permafrost are melting, in
amounts greater than the
whole carbon dioxide (CO2)
from the air today.
 Broke off several pieces of glacier
ice Sulzberger, who according to historical
records had not suffered any break in at least 46
    years.
 Changing bulbs
 Less driving
 More recycling
 Checking the gums
 Do not use hot water
 Avoid products with lots of packaging
 Adjust the thermostat
 Planting a tree
 Turn off and unplug things electronic
 Fewer pregnancies
 Being part of the solution
