Edwin
Walker
received
his
PhD
in
Cellular
Immunology
with
Dr.
Noel
Warner
at
the
University
of
New
Mexico
School
of
Medicine
in
1982.
He
subsequently
completed
a
postdoctoral
fellowship
in
the
Flow
Cytometry
Research
and
Development
Group
–
Department
of
Experimental
Pathology
under
Dr.
Carleton
Stewart
at
the
Los
Alamos
National
Laboratory
in
1984.
Following
his
postdoctoral
training
Dr.
Walker
accepted
an
Assistant
Professor
position
in
the
Hematology
Oncology
Division
of
the
Department
of
Medicine
at
Indiana
University
–
Purdue
University,
School
of
Medicine
in
Indianapolis.
He
also
became
the
Director
of
the
Core
Flow
Cytometry
Resource
Laboratory
for
the
Medical
School.
Dr.
Walker
became
an
Associate
Professor
at
Purdue
University
in
1989
where
he
continued
to
work
on
the
development
of
higher
order
multiparameter
flow
cytometry
procedures
for
diagnostic
medicine.
In
1993,
he
became
the
Director
of
the
Immunopharmacology
Laboratory
and
the
Director
of
the
Core
Flow
Cytometry
Laboratory
at
RIBI
Immunochem
Research,
a
biotech
company
in
Hamilton,
MT.
Following
the
sale
of
RIBI
Immunochem
in
2000,
Dr.
Walker
became
the
Chief
of
the
Immunological
Monitoring
Laboratory
(IML)
at
the
Robert
W.
Franz
Cancer
Research
Center,
Earle
A
Chiles
Research
Institute,
Providence
Cancer
Center,
in
Portland,
Oregon.
The
IML
was
principally
engaged
in
the
development,
optimization,
and
application
of
state
of
the
art
immunomonitoring
procedures,
including
8-‐
13
parameter
higher
order
polychromatic
flow
cytometry,
for
the
comprehensive
interrogation
of
the
tumor-‐specific
immune
response
of
cancer
patients
receiving
immunotherapy.
Beginning
in
2012
Dr.
Walker’s
role
in
the
IML
changed
to
allow
more
time
for
the
development
and
application
of
polychromatic-‐flow
techniques
and
multiparameter
data
analysis
procedures
for
the
study
of
tumor
immunity
in
cancer
immunotherapy
patients.
As
a
Senior
Scientist
in
the
IML
he
directed
the
application
of
this
technology
to
the
immunomonitoring
of
selected
investigator
initiated
immunotherapy
trials
at
Providence
Cancer
Center,
and
for
contract
research
collaborations
with
the
biopharmaceutical
industry.
Dr.
Walker
left
Providence
in
2013
and
started
Advanced
Cytometry
Solutions
LLC
to
further
promote
the
implementation
of
advanced,
state
of
the
art
polychromatic
flow
cytometry
technology
and
assay
development
in
the
biopharmaceutical
industry.
